A lot of Western people have criticized Muslim societies for forcing women to cover themselves. Many of those same people have then banned (or tried to ban) veils in schools, work places and other public places. My question is, aren’t they doing the exact same thing they criticize others for? They too are trying to control women and tell them what to wear and what not to wear. Why are not individual women given choices and let decide for themselves whether or not to cover themselves? Why do societies always try to control everyone according to their own ideas?

Not being allowed to wear a veil if you want one is in my opinion just as bad as being forced to wear one when you don’t want to. Both are limits to individual freedom.

What do you think? Do you see any difference between those two?

and over this 147 year period the US has been involved in countless wars and conflicts. Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, several South American conflicts (including Bay of Pigs, Grenada), Iraq War I, Iraq War II...resulting in hundreds of thousands of casualties. Does this mean christian leaders are blood thirsty?

Mega church ministers have private jets, mansions that revial the White House, and where is the money going? Clearly, they are not donating much of this cash to do God's work? They look good on Sunday morning and make no apology for the excessive wealth in the face of so much hardship and suffering, not only here in this country, but around the world. If this Teleavangelists are truely doing God's work, let them fly coach and buy suits at Walmart like the rest of us. Have you ever seen a skinny teleavangelists?

My son has to wear tradional Indian dress (not native American) for a school nativity but as only a very small percentage of Indians are Christians I am wondering If tradional Indian dress is linked to relgions such as Hinuism thus making it inappropriate for a Christian celebration>

Take ANY statement as an example: "trees grow up from the ground". When you first heard this statement, at some point you thought "Yes, that sounds right to me..." and accepted it as fact.

The same can be asked of religious statements you read or are otherwise exposed to.

I see questions on here all the time declaring various litmus tests for "true" christians. This is an honest question mainly directed to those who claim to be christians answer as much of it, or as little of it as you like.

What is a true christian in your opinion?

What are the core issues that must be believed?

What are areas you can disagree on?

I often see this related to issues of social concern or various doctrinal points, usually prefaced by "How can you consider yourself a true christian if you believe _________

So in your opinion can a true christian vary in their views on:

1. The creation account in genesis

2. Abortion

3. Homosexuality

4. Baptism (infant versus believer)

Of course, there are other issues. I'm just interested in the temperature of the forum--nothing more.

Though the RCC teaches on the fundamental dignity of human kind and that all are to be treated with compassion, respect and fairness. Does it believe that all races and social groups (black, white, yellow, straight, gay) or equal. It seems to seem that in the past and to some extent today, that whenever science or socialogy researchers conflicts with its beliefs especialy when it comes to Homosexuals the RCC denies theyre findings. . What I am saying is that not that they neccassarily racsist or homophobic but rather that its teachings on homosexuals is in conflict with the findings of ALL the major studies from credible researchers. A letter in 1987 from Ratzzinger said that homosexual people should not suffer from UNJUST discrimination but it also said that discrimination against them in housing and a host of vocations is just. (Teaching, Coaching, military and housing as well as the religous life)
