certainly, the species who have learned to cooperate and work together for a common goal, rather than having an "every man for himself" mentality have survived best. this is obvious all throughout the animal kingdom. could you imagine any species surviving very long on the idea of kill or be killed?

If so, I feel as if I may be coming down with a case. That's a good thing. Big hugs to you all, and warmest wishes for a wonderful holiday.

If you believe your creator has given you the inalienable right to free will, how could you possibly square that with the belief that sinister and profane forces could remove that right? Aren't these two ideas mutually exclusive?

Difficult scriptures to adhere to and follow, gives ideas/examples of us versus them mentallities, antagonises the world in which we live in; with all of it's supposed gifts like discernment, saving you from hell, enlightenment, better life, all these promises, it still fills you with fear and restriction in how you lead your life, so techically you can't relax, let go, and think about things like going to rock concerts, getting drunk, having fun, yadda yadda, without fear or getting punished, teaches you to almost fear the world, because " it was given over to Satan," instead of loving the world.

You might end up trying to kill people who you think are evil "a la Islamics, historic Christianity,".

Bottom line: Religion isn't exactly Barney the Dinosaur. It claims to be loving, but instead of I love you, you love me's, we get 100s of pages of scripture, rules, regulations, fear, and some people like mentioned above MAY become extremists.

God/Religion isn't exactly nice, is it

- and do you care? :)

I've read umpteen posts today alone, describing the Tanakh as being 'wrong', 'irrelevant', 'deluded' etc

So if you don't mind, I'd just like to clarify:
1) Jesus did not 'do away' with the 'old' laws. He was a devout Jew his entire life and he did not state that the Judaic laws no longer applied

2) You can quote from the NT all day long, but it was written after the death of Jesus, and by people who mostly never even met Jesus, such as Paul.

3) How is that the Christians I know personally, cherry pick: they claim that yes, they must adhere to the ten commanments but that - conveniently! - they don't have to keep kosher and so can eat pork etc!

4) The so-called predictions about Jesus in the Tanakh are NOT about him: they all rest on mistranslated Hebrew!

5)To those who do insult the Tanakh: does it ever occur to you that it's really insensitive to do so?

Mormons seem to evade serious questions regarding their past. Why?

TODAY'S MINEFIELD...

On many Mormon temples is a statue of a golden man, blowing a trumpet.

1. Was he a Nephite?
2. Did Nephites have trumpets?
3. Did Moroni take lessons?
4. Were auditions made?
5. Were may we read the results?
6. Why is he plated with gold?
7. Did Nephites wear designer robes?
8. Are garments beneath his robe?
9. Did Joseph Smith see garments as he looked "into the bosom" of Moroni, during the visitations?
10. Why did Moroni come to the teen's bedroom at night?
11. What does the trumpet player signify?
12. Why weren't Louis Armstrong or Billy Preston used as models, after 1978?
13. Will Mitt Romney answer any of these questions when he becomes Vice President?

it possibly has something to do with thanksgiving...

I'm told that after rapture, all the souls in Hell, as well as Satan will be destroyed once and for all, cast into the lake of fire and ended.

How can Hell be eternal...if it is going to end?? After God destroys the hellish souls, well, that's the END of the torture. And yet, Hell is supposed to be eternal.
Another incongruity in the Bible perhaps??

if you told me to worship god, and i said i don't believe in god, and you killed me for that, would that be considered murder? many people, mostly christians, in my last question seemed to think i didn't understand the difference between murder and killing as a form of punishment.

There is just so much to tell beside your name and age. What do you believe in? Where do you live? Which school did you go to? What are you doing by way of a job? The list goes on.

It's so common to hear someone say "tell me about yourself." Where would you start? How would you go about introducing yourself?
