I'd rather not believe at all than have to live with deifying a violent and opressive deity.

For me, any God is better than no God. Now I know that my atheist friends disagree with me, but that's okay. Mankind has always used a God or Supreme Being to help regulate the population. People can get away with breaking man made laws because it requires being caught or at least some evidence. But if people feel that there is a "God" watching them at all times, it helps regulate their activities and keep them a little more straight. It also helps people develop a moral conscience, where they will want to do "God's Will" adding to public order. And I guess that's okay to some degree. Where the problem comes in is with these people who are so heavenly minded, they ain't no earthly good. They condemn because another doesn't believe the way they do. They threaten with God's wrath and call others names. I think these scare tactics were used throughout the Bible to use fear to get people to believe the way the writer intended them too. The God I worship is not a bloodthirsty God, but if he was, I'd worship him anyway. I maintain a very open-minded attitude about God and religion because none of us know for sure!

I guess that would depend on whether the bloodthirsty god was real and could punish you for disbelief. Fortunately for me, the God I follow is not that way.

I believe in a loving God who created a bunch of rebellious, arrogant, diobedient, and morally bankrupt children, who need constant discipline.

Neither sound like good options, to me, but at least believing in no god at all wouldn't predispose you to being as bloodthirsty as the deity.
