First of all, this is a Jewish proclamation, not a christian proclamation.

The word jealous, qanah, is the same word as to purchase. So, the meaning of the word becomes a little bit different.

If you spend a lot of money on something, you are protective of that something. Hashem "purchased" Israel from slavery in Egypt. And they are the only nation in history to accept the Torah. Therefore Hashem is "jealous" to protect us.

In today's english, it would better translate to "protective."

So, instead of making me mistrust G-d, it makes me trust G-d all the more as I know he will protect us.

No, He is a jealous God becuase He wants us to give HIM the praise and glory, not any other gods. After all, He deserves it. He's the creator of the universe and us. He's all-powerful, all-knowing and everywhere at all times!

No, it makes me trust Him more.

It's similar to this analogy:
If your children, whom you breathed life into, gave everything to, promised everything to, came up to you and said, "I will no longer call you (mother or father), instead I am going to call that person over there (mother or father), wouldn't you be a little jealous. I know I would if my children started calling someone else "Dad" and giving them the kinds of praises reserved only for their true Dad.

Since jealously is supposed to be one of the 7 deadly sins it may be a pause to think about it.

No. God says, I am God and there is no other. Worshiping anything other than God is useless, but if you do He is jealous of what you are worshiping. And He will destroy it. All wickedness and ungodliness will be destroyed.
