I saw this link on a previous question
ARE THE SAUDI'S COMPLETELY NUTS
Instead of helping the poor girl, after being GANG RAPED, THEY PUNISH HER!!
This is insane. I say we take this no longer. Muslims, come on, lets stand up. Lets change this. they are hurting us.. with their wild laws, they're just giving a bad name to muslims..
So lets change this.. but how?
All feedback welcome
And another question : does Sharia Law really support this decision?(punishment)
I mean does Sharia really enforce these type of punishments of RAPE VICTIMS?

As others have said, it is not true Islamic law. Once again as always throughout time, men(and women) have used religion to justify thier own desires and beliefs instead of truly humbling themselves before God and living with love in thier hearts. I am not muslim, not Christian though that is my upbringing and I truly syphathise with all true followers of islam during this time. A minority of zealots with no place in God's kingdom are causing you all to be lumped together and misunderstood. I pray the actions of a few do not for long overshadow the majority that are good loving people. While it should not be your responsibility, I encourage everyone of the Muslim faith, and all faiths to stand up and speak clearly about the true meaning of our faiths. I further encourage everyone to join interfaith efforts to bring the religions of the world together to focus on the many similarities of beliefs they all share.

Salam,
Please read my full answer.
I don't thing it is wrong that she was punished.
The Evil People who raped her deserve a harsher punishment.
But she has broken a law of the land and so she should be punished too.
This is like the case in US
A thief robbed a house, while escaping he got stuck in the garage, as the door would not open. He had to starve for 3 days, was found by the owners.
He came out and tried to sue the garage door makers. Does him starving for 3 days, make him immune to the law, should he be punished for breaking in a house and stealing.
Similarly, if a person is Speeding/Run a red light and get into an accident. The person is hurt. Does his/her being hurt make it Ok to Run a red light? or should the person be punished.
Having said this the degree of her punishment can be questioned. But then I don't know what their law states.

Many years ago I was working in Saudi Arabia in the capital and was caught by the religious police in the market. I was taken to the punishments and forced to watch at gunpoint. A foreign domestic worker was raped by a whole family of men. There was a father and four sons that used her repeatedly over a course of months. She could not leave because they held her passport. She finally used a knife against the father and even though he was not badly injured she was beaten as punishment past the point of being unconscience and then thrown back into prison without any medical treatment. Finally her home country protested until she was released. The rapists received no punishment.
In Christ
Fr. Joseph
360 page,
What happened to me was not in some small town in Saudi Arabia but in the capital city of Riyaad. I lived there off and on for eight years and things like this were very common.

Salaam Alaykum,
Rest assured just like America money rules in the House of Saud. Here in my State of Florida a scantily clad Saudi Princess was arrested for beating her Asian maid while attending university. (Orlando 2001) Take a look at some of the old photo's of Bin Laden's sisters in Europe in the seventies hip huggers, long hair, and the like. These selfish spoiled Saudi women are EXEMPT from sharia law because they are rich and powerful members of the Royal families...anyone who has wittnessed their behavior abroad can tell you. Sharia law is fair and balanced when it is not applied to these women? But it won't. So it is hypocritical and therefore flawed. Oh was it also okay when a group of Saudi girls school caught on fire
and the police and fireman did not let them out of the building unless they could retrieve their outergarments and those who could not burned to death. King Abdullah is a dictator and is on Amnest Internationals list of the world's cruelest dictators. enough so that it would make our Prophet Muhammad PBUH sick. Allahs SWT punishment is quick and just and he spoke of Muslim's like this in the Qu'ran ...remember the fate of the evil dictaor Qarun and his fate. The law in the Quran for unmarried person engaged in pre-marital sex was 100 lash.
Wasalaam

It seems that most Sharia laws are to persecute women; we have seen this both in Iran and Saudi Arabia.
I see one of the Muslim posters here "360 page" is taking a big bite at the USA...well shame on you. The US and Saudi Arabian leaders are very good friends..yes?
And don't you know that many Saudi Arabian women have found refuge in the US?
Maybe if all the abused women in your country leave, you will be happy ..yes??? Then Saudi Arabia will be populated by an all gay society......yes?
You Eastern Muslim men are all the same....evil, vindictive and cruel towards women. Muslim women should stand up as one and demand their rights and respect as proclaimed in the Holy Quran.

no. sharia law follows islamic laws. islam says tht if someone commits rape, the rappist must be put to death.
edit: da man- i think she shouldnt be punished AT ALL. i mean, cant we just leave the punishing part up to Allah? if this punishment was determined by the sharia law, this would be it:
1- the girl would have NO PUNISHMENT, and she would recieve some sort of counseling to help her build back her life.
2- those pig rapists would be killed.
edit: C.L.- looks to me like ur christian. did Jesus tell u to hurt others' feelings like this? is this wat Jesus has taught u? to bash on others? well if so, then tht may be the reason millions convert out of christianity and into islam.
edit: HAHA LOOK CL DELETED HIS ANSWER!!

This is NOT sharia law. This entire ruling is UNislamic. This is an idiot man made law. According to TRUE islamic law, the punishment for committing rape is death.

sharia law is not positive law, it is a methodology to law.
the saudis decided that their laws are that two unmarried individuals being together is punishable by lashings and imprisonment.
That is a law they have made up themselves. It is not a "Strict interpretation of sharia law"
