Why do people confuse being polite...with having to be FAKE to one another? I work with so many fake people, it disgusts me. Our conversations never get past the small talk BS it seems. I mean honestly, how many times can you ask... " How was your weekend?" Or "Isn't the weather great?" LOL OH MY LORD, .......how boring, repetitive, and showing of their lack of social skills....

Someone please tell me why this is so! :0) Thanks!

Monday night I was home watching wrestling on the tv. I heard this moaning/ growling noise coming from out back. I got up and went to the back porch to take a gander. I seen this huge hairy man squating over my garden gnome & defecating on it. I shouted at it and it ran into the woods. Is there anyone I can report this to???

lost implies i'm going in a direction which will not take me to my desired destination. yet, if i know i'm going somewhere and i want to go there, i'm no longer lost. so why do i keep getting told by christians that i'm lost. if i'm lost and i want to go to hell wouldn't that mean i'm going to heaven, since they're my only two choices for the afterlife?

or is it solstice?

maybe jesus was just feeling a little left out at that time of year and kinda wedged himself into the season.

i do believe the sun god is born at that time, not the son of god.

what do you think? or maybe it doesn't matter, as long as we are spending time with our families and showing good will to our fellow (wo)men

After years of pessimism and being beaten down (metaphorically) by myself and others, my wife has asked me to change, and in looking for a way to change we have come across The Secret, which is about basically asking "the universe" for what you want, and being more positive about it.

So instead of believing that every signal light will be red, just believe that as you approach the light will change to green. After trying this for a while things are suppose to change within your life.

I am trying this, but my nature is a little more negative, is there anyone out there having success with this kind of thought and practice?

then your probably open to the idea of Multiple Parallel Universes too, right?

After all, these theories all come from scholarly, highly educated, scientifically minded individuals such as yourselves.

With the Multiverse theory, we can explain away such things as the apparent fine tuning of the universe.

If you believe that, then do you also believe that STAR TREK, STAR WARS and BUCK RODGERS are a genuine reality in some parallel dimension somewhere?

If the Multiple Parallel Universe theory is correct, how can you escape the absurd possibility that Captain Kirk could be putting the moves on some alien babe in some "hypothetical" reality as we speak?

The Secret of Living

The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant.

— Psalm 25:14

Have you ever been semi-listening in on someone's conversation? Not intentionally, of course, because you would never do that. Maybe you were in a restaurant and your table was right next to someone else's. Maybe you were talking to the person you were with or reading. You weren't really listening, but then you heard the magic word. Someone said, "I am going to tell you a secret right now. No matter what, I don't want you to tell anyone else this secret. . . . "

What did you do? Did you put your hands over your ears? No. If you're like most people, you listened more carefully. We all love to hear secrets. We want to know the inside story. Even if someone is a complete stranger, we are still interested in his or her secret.

God has a secret that He wants to declare to you. The Bible says, "The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him" (Psalm 25:14). In many ways, this isn't really a secret, because it is plainly declared in Scripture. Unfortunately, because so few people have opened up the Bible to see what it says, they have missed out.

This is the secret of making life more full and meaningful. It is a secret that can help you avoid untold misery and heartache. You might even say it is the secret of living. We find it in Ecclesiastes 12:13, where Solomon says, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all."

That is what it all comes down to. That is what is going to keep you on track for God's plan for your life.

I'll keep it short:

In the past, my husband and I have alternated Thanksgivings. One year with my family, next year with his, etc. Since this is our first holiday in our new house, we thought we would throw a nice, big Thanksigiving dinner.

The party includes around 20 guests, half being from my side and half from my husband's side.

My husband's side always does a Secret Santa gift giving for Christmas, and names are traditionally drawn at Thanksgiving. It's JUST that side of the family; they aren't very gung-ho about opening it up to my side of the family.

That's fine. I can respect that.

My question: They want to draw names at Thanksgiving, but my family will also be there. Should we ahead and draw the names, leaving out my side, or attempt to draw names in a different location, which may or may not be able to work out?

I live in a racially segregated area in Seattle, and I can drive about 5 minutes from my house and find nothing but Projects that are full of BLACK PEOPLE. This makes me so angry. This racist government has a so called WAR on Drugs that is directed only towards my People who sell CRACK, I've never seen a rehabilitation commercial to help people addicted to crack. However I've seen countless "Meth" commercials trying to help White people who are addicted to it, it's only because they want to help their own people. Why can the Government spend Billions of Dollars on Wars against innocent Arabian people but not to help Black people out of Poverty and from killing each other.

I know that in order for someone to receive help form another, they have to be willing to change themselves. I know that this will never change though until Blacks see that the Government and its enforcers (police) actually care and want to treat them as equals.

I was shocked a few years ago when I saw ear candles ina health store. They were $12. Heck, you can make your own out of an old bedsheet and a melted candle. My Grandma showed me how to do it 40 years ago. It's amazing how well they work.

Like breaking something or ruining someone's life. Augustine found this out but why is it so? (it has nothing to do with the devil because that would mean that he is has a greater influence on us than God. Devil> God)

I had a Jehovah's Witness come to my house for a few months and I thought we were friends. We talked for about 20 minutes twice a week when she came over. We talked about God and I even went to one of their meetings. I am Penecostal and go to my own church. I told her this and she seemed cool with it but always invited me to their church and their meetings. My husband recently decided to go back to church with me and told me that he doesn't want the Johovah's Witnesses to come back over anymore. So being the obedient wife that I am I had to tell her that she can't come over anymore to do bible studies. She seemed to be ok with it and said if I ever decided to come back to call her. I was heart broken to tell her that she can't come back anymore and I was hoping that she would want to be friends but she acted like she didn't want to be a friend unless I continued their bible studies. Can't she be my friend without studying their ways or is it that she just doesn't want to be friends?

The reason I ask: I was taught that it was "Love one another as I have loved you," and to love God. I'm Roman Catholic.

While talking to a Baptist, he told me I was wrong, that Jesus's commission to us was "Go out and convert the nations," and that "Love one another" was only for, as he put it, "the brethren," the people in his church.

He was very adamant that he did not have to love people who weren't already "saved," per the Baptist church. I found that very interesting.

What is your church, and what does it hold as Jesus's greatest, most important command to us?

In the USA, at least, the religious are more likely to reproduce and to have more offspring if they reproduce than are the irreligious. Likewise, religious attitudes, including irreligion, are heavily influenced by upbringing. Interestingly enough, the most commonly accepted "objective" measure of evolutionary fitness is a count of grandoffspring. That is, if ones genes are more "fit", then it is logical that this would manifest in greater reproductive success for ones children. Therefore, since the religious are:

1: More likely to reproduce.
2: More likely to have religious offspring.
3: More likely to have more offspring, altogether.

It is only rational to conclude that they will have more grandoffspring than the irreligious.

Thus, could they be more evolutionarily fit than the irreligious?
