After years of pessimism and being beaten down (metaphorically) by myself and others, my wife has asked me to change, and in looking for a way to change we have come across The Secret, which is about basically asking "the universe" for what you want, and being more positive about it.
So instead of believing that every signal light will be red, just believe that as you approach the light will change to green. After trying this for a while things are suppose to change within your life.
I am trying this, but my nature is a little more negative, is there anyone out there having success with this kind of thought and practice?

I tried wishing for a green light once, but I got side-swiped because I dropped my Wishing Hat and the light stayed red. Why won't the universe answer my wishes without that stupid hat??

If you're happy and you know it Clap your Hands.
Turn your pessimism into joy. We are to count it all joy. That means everything. Even when my mom died, of course I was sad. I counted it all joy, because she was a Saved Christian and she no longer had cancer eating her body. She died and her soul went to Heaven.
Count it all joy.
My daughter got head lice in August and as I was picking Nits and being totally grossed out, I counted it all joy, that she didn't have cancer and actually had hair.
Count IT all joy.
What else can I tell you?
If you constantly think bad things are going to happen they will. Think positively. I don't always think like that. I use to think " What next?" sometimes I still do. Then I find myself laughing at my own misfortune. One because it's funny.
Like going to pizza and having the food disagree with you, and NOT make it home before it ( food) makes it's Encore Appearance.
you have to laugh, count IT all joy.
I could have been IN the restaurant when that happened but I wasn't. I was in my car. SO instead of a bunch of strangers making fun of me, I had my children to do that. :)
Just try and be happy.
I know you remember the old song.
Don't worry be happy!

Hope for the best but expect the worse could happen.
Do you want some sort of magical formula? It wont happen because if you think you can get away with special blessings by practicing little meditations, the universe will come back and bite your *** to prove to you, you are not in control. The universe decides who finds the gold-yet the ones who search more often find it. Wisdom though meditation is a good thing and you get that by taking time to reflect. The best wealth comes through hard work and/or study.
Just accept what is...and see the beauty in it and you may find you will become more positive.
That is my perspective. Good luck and happiness to you.

This sounds dangerous, especially concerning traffic signals. Try saying, "If this light turns red, i know my brakes will work."
Mato has made a sensible suggestion (no offense intended, Mato). If that sounds like too much for Your time and ambition, You can pursue this idea further in A Course in Miracles. The change You seek involves a lot of concentrated effort.
Meanwhile, pay attention to how many times YOUR good luck is someone else's BAD.

Yes- it will take a long time to start noticing things- but even just retraining your brain to see the positive in things instead of the negative will have a huge impact on your life!
My mom is all gung-ho on The Secret- and slowly my entire family has watched it and began to change- so far everyone seems happier and has a much more positive outlook on life!

My company had their sales team watch The Secret as a means to motivate them.
Thing is, whether the light turns green or not doesn't really matter. Your attitude is the thing that changes. it's training yourself to be a positive person regardless of the obstacles. If it does nothing else but make you a bit less negative, then it has worked.

I do believe positive thought can bring about positive things but only once you put your positive thoughts in motion. If you think positively you have a better chance at succeeding at the things you are doing. If all that one had to do was to think it and have it come true I would not be working I would be a multi-bazillionaire with every woman I desired on my arm.

"The Secret" is just another new age rewrite of ancient wisdom from Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, Mediterranean Mystery Schools, and Persian sources, reworked, slicked up with psychobabble, and sold to unsuspecting spiritual wannabes that are looking for the "Quick Fix" to their problems.
Study the original sources. Much better.

Sounds like the power of positive thinking. It's popular among many people...think positive and positive things will happen. I could benefit from it to find parking spaces in crowded lots.
