Why do people confuse being polite...with having to be FAKE to one another? I work with so many fake people, it disgusts me. Our conversations never get past the small talk BS it seems. I mean honestly, how many times can you ask... " How was your weekend?" Or "Isn't the weather great?" LOL OH MY LORD, .......how boring, repetitive, and showing of their lack of social skills....

Someone please tell me why this is so! :0) Thanks!

I think they are just being polite, not necessarily fake. Maybe they don't want to go into personal details with you, no offense. I always keep my work and personal lives separate, so I don't develop relationships with coworkers. It doesn't reflect on my lack of social skills, I am perfectly open socially when I am away from work. Would you rather people just totally ignored you and just skipped the small talk, then you would just think they were rude.

The point is, there is a difference between politeness and fakeness. You can't call someone fake if you hardly know them.

It sounds to me like they are keeping it polite and professional. A lot of people try not to make friends at work. They don't sound fake. I think fake would be more along the lines of being your closest confidant at work but then talking about you to all your co-workers behind your back.

Because no one wants to take the risk of actually being genuine. It's like being the first to say "I love you" in a relationship. You have to be willing to risk whatever the other person says back. Easier to keep it superficial and just let your spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend [people you can't get rid of as easily] hear the heavy stuff.

Now take this GAME and keep it for life!

Could be they want to have a favorable persona observed by management. Or could just be that PC nonsense.
