My boyfriend's parents took me out once. When the bill came I offered to pay for my share and they said "don't be ridiculous." Next time they take me out should I assume it is again their treat? I am 30 years old.

Or honestly are you/we just responding to some of these questions with no sense at all? Do we believe in accountability or not? No wonder...

Honestly, a local Baptist church had its parishioners hand out little comic books on Halloween telling little kids that it doesn't matter if they are good people or not; if they don't accept Jesus as their lord and savior then they will go to Hell.
Apparently, according to this, it is Satan who tells people that being a good person is important. God tells us to be Christians, because that is the ONLY thing that matters.

I don't mean a translation of the Quran, a surah book, a dua book... or anything of non-fiction

I am talking about FICTION--> like a story set in an Islamic Backround

I have been on the prowl and so far the only book i have found is the book Minaret
http://www.amazon.com/Minaret-Novel-Leila-Aboulela/dp/0802170145/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1195593016&sr=1-1

Do you know any other books set in time-periods (or not) having to do with Islam

Honestly, if i don't find a book, i may end up writing one (i need to find a story first)

lol, so, basically im looking for a fiction book, having to do with islam

I have heard about the Kite Runner
http://www.amazon.com/Kite-Runner-Illustrated-Khaled-Hosseini/dp/1594489602/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/002-1495171-0325629?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1186889736&sr=8-2

But like, it looked as if it dealt with terrorism, and the taliban.. i mean, i kinda was looking for something a lil diff

But send me the titles please and i'll check em out

Why do Catholics pray to saints, many wonder

In the Catholic understanding, prayer is a "request". When we pray to those who have gone to heaven ahead of us, we are making a "request" of them. And what is that request? It is that THEY pray for US. Protestants do it all the time, but they limit themselves to making this request only of people still on earth. In this, the protestant view of the Church is very narrow. You see, Romans 8: 38-39 says: "neither death nor life... ...neither the present nor the future.. ..neither height nor depth, nor anything else.. ..will be able to separate us". The Family of God transcends death. We ALL LIVE IN CHRIST.

It is important to note that praying to saints is not a requirement of Catholics, just an option: Just as a protestant doesnt HAVE to ask a friend to pray for them, but they can

Heb 12: 22-24 says that as we approach God, Jesus and the angels, we also approach "the spirits of righteous men made perfect". In other words, THE SAINTS

Jesus did not start Christianity; it is an effigy, a hollow symbol like all religion.

A humanly conceived pretense held up while emulation of that upon which faiths are claimed remains mostly unseen in many.

Jesus was neither Christian nor accepted as Jew.

Mohammed was not Muslim, Buddha was not Buddhist or accepted by the status quo in their time either.

They stood against false idol, unkept ideal, the worshiping empty image, and sustaining of imbalance and inequity.

Things have been set in motion that cannot be stopped yet most chose this way.

We destroy Eden, this is forbidden of any form of life that is sustained.

We have roughly five years to prepare as systems, infrastructures, economies and empty beliefs collapse.

Those who remain in the rubble beyond have approximately one thousand years to prove if indeed there is any worth in our species, other then the empathy found in so few of our souls.

no, I dont mean in the "you almightly and all powerfu grassbladel" way that some ppl worship.

I mean , do you admire it's beauty? Is your mind and emotion taken away?

Do you stop to look at tree's and spend time to dance in the rain, is a field a beautiful place for you?

Do you notice the changing moon and rejoice with the sun?

Its perrenial , it survives even when we dont want it too. When we die, it carries us along. We dont get to see its full beauty and power because we cut it away or dont let it grow as it should.

I dunno, I could see myself building a mini alter in my home and including some blades of grass , along with other things.

I feel comfortable with these thoughts and feelings?

your thoughts plz?
=D

not just this question, but all questions....they always say that their "sacred text" whatever that may be states this or that, but there are always contradictions. If it was the infallable word of god, don't you think he/she/or it would have made things pretty clear?

I have been doing a lot of research on Astral projection. I have tried to eat only vegetables, meditation, and all the AM with George Norie "coast to coast" stuff. I even went so far as try to use DMT a chemical that is secreted from your pineal gland when you dream to try and get some answers. But to no avail.
Just some info on my meditation, is that I cannot imagine being in a grass field visually in my mind. But I can make myself feel that I am in a grass field. So in the Astral projection directions when it says visualize something I am actually just feeling like I am.
I have had several lucid dreams where I tried to manipulate it into an astral projection but ultimately just woke up. Anyone know if there is any truth to astral projection.
I am not gullible, I am a scientist and my logic and reason tells me that there is no such thing. But I choose to prove to myself that there is nothing more out there.

It's everything for me.
The happiness, the family, smiling faces on excited children.
Christmas Eve, when my little sister is full of excitement for Santa to come.
Seeing people's faces are when you give them the perfect gift.
Snow, christmas music, christmas movies.
Christmas cookies, happiness and excitement in the air.
A little break from homework.
Getting gifts from people that love you.

What do you love about Christmas?

:)

How is it decided if it is moral to kill or not? I'm not talking just about humans, I'm talking about everything. No one cares if I kill a mosquito...this is actually a goverment supported act, they kill them by the thousands. However, if I killed a dog...I better have a darn good reason for doing so...like the dog is attacking a child. Is it the size of the animal, is it the domestication? I don't think it is the size, if I saw a tiger walking in my neighborhood...I don't think I would be demonized if I shot it...being that it could be dangerous. I don't think it has to do with danger either...any stray dog I see could pose a danger to my children. No one would care if I step on an ant outside. Kids do this all the time, no one really cares do they? What about if a child decides to go and kill a beautiful butterfly? Is that different than them stepping on an ant?

what percentage of the questions here in R&S are serious questions?

It seems that most questions here are really meant to either ridicule the beliefs of others or reassert the beliefs of the person asking the question.

david had to keep the arc of the covenant in a tent. He fought with a spear. When he became king, the king of Tyre donated cedar logs for his palace. In his childhood, it says there were no blacksmiths in the land. the only reason he is so popular is because a prophecy says his name will be like the greatest men on earth. wow.

So I have trouble when people want to write him off as non existant. i mean, you can fly to Isreal and ask the cab driver to take you to his son's fort...??

Can someone smart help?

I ask this because I often see creationists asking 'evolutionists' if they believe evolution can be wrong, or if another possibility exists.

It is an important question. If a person believes they cannot be wrong, that belief is not scientific, and it has no place in science.

So, do you believe it is possible that God does not exist?

It's November and people are already starting to talk about how much they want the summer to come back, so they can go to the beach. I can't stand the beach! The sun burns my skin, sand gets in my crotch and the water stings my eyes. I hate it so much.

I only like the beach when it's night time, or if it's grey and drizzly and mysterious. I can't stand it when it's extremely sunny, dirty and filled with oily sweaty people.

you know, the more good you do the more spiritual currency you earn (like money). And whenever you do a bad deed is like spending your currency. and if you run out(go broke), GOD punishes you. And you need a certain amount when you die in order to pay your way into heaven. And what makes one person better than the other is how much spiritual currency they have, regardless of how much (worldly) money they have, and a billionaire could be poor when it comes to spiritual currency. And some people trade their spiritual currencies in exchange for money(pornstars, bad musicians, movie stars, fame) Thats what it seems like to me, what do you think?
