Actually, many people of asian decent suffer from what is called the "asian glow".

Those who show signs of the Asian glow have inherited either one or two abnormal genes. When alcohol is first metabolized, it is converted to a byproduct known as acetaldehyde. In most people, an enzyme known as aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) breaks down acetaldehyde. Some people of asian descent, however, have a deficiency in the enzyme, which causes them to break down acetaldehyde at a much slower rate. When acetaldehyde accumulates in the bloodstream, it can cause flushing, burning or other unpleasant side effects, doctors say.

Some people say zantac or pepcid AC helps solve this...but it's more of a urban myth.

Many women also have the same problem, a similar genetic trait where they lack the enzymes to break the alcohol down quickly.
