I got two today, normally would not worry me, but one was a great link to music, and other was an answer with a link to some music. Doesn't this make more sense. That way, if people see anything offensive, adult content, the ones who have worked hard here and contributed a lot, would pick it up anyway.? You comments please.

There is the big up roar over the Golden Comapss and His Dark Material trilogy. The Religious community says it is basically evil and it kills God. I will tell you right now I never even heard of these books till the bad press about it hit the news. So Yes I bought them and I am enjoying them.

I believe in God and I know this book will not change my view on that. Have people not learned anything? Da Vinci Code? The book was poorly written, the plot was obvious, the characters were flat and lifeless, But it sold millions of copies.
Why? I would have to say the uproar from the Catholic Church.

Its not just books. I mean I could bring up Harry Potter as well. But let's look at movies. The Exorcist. The Church hated this movie. Yet it is one of the top favorite movies still today. Yes its scary but the effects are not that good. When it came out the church protested it. The sales JUMPED!
So if I write a book I'd like bad religious press.
Do you think it sells more books?

What things do you dislike about your church or churches you attended frequently in the past but recently left? What denominations were these churches of? What could the pastor have done to fix these problems? What could you have done to fix these problems? Lastly, what do you consider a "dead" church and who do you consider largely responsible for the death of this church?

Please be specific.

Many christians misinterperet islams holy scriptures and make up things to claim that Islam preaches terrorism. Well, lets take a deep look in their scriptures!
Let me mention just a few verses from the Old Testament and New Testament and tell me what do you say about them:

“When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you. And when the LORD your God delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them and show no favor to them. (Deutronomy 7:1-2)

“When you approach a city to fight against it, you shall offer it terms of peace. If it agrees to make peace with you and opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall become your forced labor and shall serve you. However, if it does not make peace with you, but makes war against you, then you shall besiege it. When the LORD your God gives it into your hand, you shall strike all the men in it with the edge of the sword. Only the women and the children and the animals and all that is in the city, all its spoil, you shall take as booty for yourself; and you shall use the spoil of your enemies which the LORD your God has given you… Only in the cities of these peoples that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, you shall not leave alive anything that breathes (Deuteronomy 20:10-17)

Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves. (Numbers 31:17-18)

Even in the New Testament we read the following statements attributed to Jesus saying to his disciples:

“I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. But these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence. (Luke 19:26-27)

"Do not think that I have come to send peace on earth. I did not come to send peace, but a sword. I am sent to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law" (Matthew 10:34-35)

Muslims believe in all Prophets sent by Allah, and so do not misuse or misinterpret the religious texts of other faiths in order to defame them. Even in recent times, Muslims have and are facing genocidal campaigns in Bosnia, Kosova, Chechnia, Kashmir, and Palestine - but they have not questioned Judaism and Christianity. Such spirit needs to be reciprocated.

Well I’m actually Muslim not Christian. I grew up in the great land down under and obviously there is freedom down here to ask religious question unlike some placed on earth! Anyways, I like religion as a whole in SOME ways but I have allot of questions about other religions and my own (because i want to get to the absolute truth about god? Is there a god? How did we get here? Etc). So I thought ill start off with the most famous one that Christian tell me jesus is god. thankyou.

I have decided to devote my life to God and become muslim. I have little to no support from my family, and some of them are actually against it. Some of them are with the idea muslims don't belive in God, which goes against the meaning of muslim itself(one who submits to God). Anyway there are not any muslims for miles from where I live and its very hard to learn the right ways. What can I do?

We are limited in that one of us (senior citizen) has immunity issues and can't get out much in public. So this year there will be just two of us at home for Thanksgiving. Sure we will have a special dinner and probably watch the Thanksgiving Day parade. But I'm curious if you have any special Thanksgiving Day traditions to keep your family entertained at home that would honor and recognize the meaning of Thanksgiving. We don't have any Indians to invite over. I've tried. Again because of the immunity problem, no company will be here (which bums me out, but what can I do?). Maybe read the story of the first Thanksgiving? I'm stumped. Most people bail and go to the movies but we can't do that either. Any ideas you have or traditions you might share would be appreciated. Thank you!

He has a lightning-shaped scar on his head, the occult symbol for Satan. There are also many references to actual occult figures in the books or so they say. Does this increase the fascination of young people for the occult (which means hidden), because the young are curious, sometimes foolishly so?

I asked a question recently about whether there were still pools that required women to wear one-piece swimsuits rather than bikinis.

I was very surprised that some people said "yes, it's a good idea, women should cover up, children shouldn't see women wearing bikinis".

What, in principle, is the difference between that and Islamic fundamentalists saying women should veil their faces?

Aren't both judgments just saying that the human body is something to be ashamed of?

(Regarding children seeing women in bikinis: God forbid that children should learn what the female body looks like. (Yes, that is sarcasm!))

If an alien came down to Earth and asked you to explain what this god thing was that most of the people on this planet worshiped, how would you explain it? They may even want some kind of evidence, what would you offer them in the way of proof?

Ex Scotland, now in New Zealand. 66 yrs old. Seek sponsors to enable me to do charity walk around Britain. Over 4000 kms - 5 months. In aid of Brit. Heart Foundation.
I had quad. heart bypass 1977 - wish to make contribution. On superannuation. Have airfare only. Need about 14000 pounds.
Possible English friend, also quad. bypass, will walk with me.
I'm writing book on this, and proceeds from it, if any, to go to N Z Heart Foundation. Email tkr0013@iconz.co.nz if you want a pdf copy of draft of book so far. It's a bit humourous (I hope) and has maps of planned route and tentative stop places.
Anyone wanting to walk part or all with me most welcome, more so if you can help raise funds.
David.
