I'm not just talking about the crazy people. :P

But the kind of mind manipulation that goes on.

Have you ever asked a question a certain way, so you could get a certain kind of response? Ever feel more obligated to answer a question condemning your faith? Or, have you noticed how after staying a while in R+S can alter your view of "the other side"? i.e. How Christians see atheists, and vice versa.

I like to try and leave my questions open to interpretation. I'm not really here to get answers, I'm here because I like to see how you guys think :)

Thank you in advance for your answrs and feel free to give more examples if you can think of any

Why isn't this true for human cultures up until the onset of Middle-Eastern patriarchal religions like Islam and Christianity?

The greeks were proud of the naked form.

Aborinals and indingenous peopl eall over the world did not associate nakedness with 'shame' or titillation. Nakedness was normal (in warmer climates)

Even nordic races regularly bathe and enjoy communal saunas totally nude, without feelings of shame or sexual arousal attached. Nudists are without shame, yet religionists attach shame to the human form.

So is the human form:

1. Intrinsically shameful and sexual (as per 'Adam and Eve' onwards)

or

2. Natural (as per most cultures in history) where not corrupted by religous puritanism?

Why can't you just leave me alone to celebrate life how-ever I choose? I have never been to your house and told you to put up a tree, why do you come to my house and tell me you don't want to see it from the road?

I've wanted to try this for awhile and I always mean too but can't find the courage to do it. Should I just go to the library in my socks without any shoes? It sounds wierd but I have the urge to do this so bad and I can't help it. What do you think?

Did some reading the last 2 wks & was just curious about this.

Ancient people lived close to the land/nature. During this time of year they gave thanks for their harvest/bounty. They got together & decided which animals needed to be killed for them to survive over the winter. This was a life & death matter for them. Bonfires – they would all put out their home fires & then light them all again from the main bonfire – therefore bonding the people/villages together. No dancing naked around bonfires or offering up sacrifices.

We celebrate Thanksgiving during the Fall to give thanks for out harvest/bounty that we have received over the year. Families and friends get together to give thanks and rebond with each other. (some only think of Thanksgiving as a time for football & pigging out though). What is the difference other than time & the way things are done?

I just read the headline about the 'government think tank' talking about the celebration of Christmas and how this may cause offence to people of other faiths.
Personally I would not have a problem with people of faiths different to mine celebrating their own festivals. Why would I be offended? Isn't it more offensive to somebody that they are told they can not celebrate their festival? If someone told you you couldn't celebrate your festival, what ever that might be, wouldn't you be offended? I am a teacher and the schools I have worked in have decorated to some extent or another for festivals from Hinduism, Islam, Judasim and Christianity. No one had a problem about it. Surely we should work on not being so easily offended.

mine
"Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or more attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor. And out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say, "my Lord! bestow on them Thy Mercy, even as they cherished me in childhood." (Quran 17: 23,24)

Seems like a silly thing to ask on Y!A, but I was wondering about more of a spiritual/philosophical aspect. Like the meaning of life, for example. I see that question asked a lot on here, yet I've always thought it to be a personal question to find your own answer to. Or another example, why do you personally do the morally right thing instead of the wrong, and what particular experiences did you have to bring about that stance?

For those that like having answers given to them, do you ever delve deeper, maybe try to figure out why that particular answer was given to you, and why it works for you? Do you ever have conflicting viewpoints if you search deeper?

For those that search, do you feel a sense of enlightenment when you reach the end? Or does the answer raise different questions that you feel you need to then solve?
