We all laugh about how idiotic and hateful they are, but how would you react if someone was really passing out such "literature" to your children?

a Christian friend of mine said "we are all brothers and sisters in christ" so if that is true... aren't all who engage in sex committing incest? OR does it mean that Christians are only supposed to have sex with non-believers since then they wouldn't be related "in Christ"?

and since this is a non-serious question, I expect only NON-serious answers please. Seriously.

When someone speaks of "God", what are the characteristics that come to mind. Note: you believe there is no such thing as God, but that concept can still have characteristics (i.e. I don't believe in vampires, which are blood-sucking, immortal, afraid of the dark). Please respond with 5 one-word characteristics. For posterity, please only answer if you are an atheist.

Even though King David commited adultry and had an innocent man killed I think Christians believe that he is in heaven right now. We must believe this because even after his various sins we are told how righteous he was in the yes of GOd. David did not need Jesus to take away his sins, he prayed to God and with a repentant heart begged for God to forgive him. Why do we need Jesus to wash away our sins when this job was allready being done by God?

IF given the choice, which one would be the moe acceptable evil? I only say evil because as far as the catholic faith is concerned, they're both evil. Masturbation or pre-marital sex? I don't quite see y masturbation is wrong. Not because of the psychological need or anything, but see, God gives u urges, and yes, he gives u prayer as a way out...but what if that doesn't work? Isn't helping urself better than having someone else help u outside the bonds of marriage? I mean, ur not hurting anyone by doing 'it" urself, so what's the harm? Y's sex a sin anyway? God gave it to us to use responsibly, but even within the bonds of marriage, it's still taboo to speak of it at all. WTF?!

I know this is a strange one!
I am not religious. I can't seem to get my head round the fact that there are so many religions, all with their own ideas of how to live, and what happens when we die. Surely, as human beings, we will all have the same experience of death, regardless of religion, and which god or various gods we worship whilst alive. Christianity for instance, is only just over 2000 years old, and people were living and dying well before that. Although I can't pin myself down to believe all aspects of one particular religion, I also have trouble with the notion that there's no life after death, as I just can't imagine us not having a soul, and something happening when we die. Any (sensible!) comments on the subject would be most helpful, as this is a subject that sometimes really bothers me, and any reassurance would be most comforting!

I think it is. Some people claim that science and God is seperate. But the claim that God created everything is implying that he set all of the natural process in the Universe in motion. I`m not saying that God is scientific or can be proven or disprove by science. Just that the cliam that he created everything is scienfitic, to be subjected to scientific scrutiny.

Oscar Wilde once planned with his brilliant mother, the poetess Speranza, to found the "Society for the Suppression of Virtue". They were only half-kidding.

Their target was what they perceived to be the false piety that so many of their day claimed as "virtue". They were targeting the hypocritical and the petty-minded.

This makes we question, however, what it is we use to define standards of "virtue". Is virtue subjective? Are there standards of definition beased on culture? On social class?
Is "virtue" a fluid quality, allowing for the necessities of the moment?

How do you define "virtue" and how is it expressed within the context of your life; i.e., religion, culture, etc.

In the Bible God promises His Word will endure. He basically promises to protect it. Where is this promise for tradition? If tradition is equal to the Bible then why didn't God promise tradition would endure?

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

1Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

I know it sounds crazy, but a guy I know who is very religious told me it was true and he read it in an up-dated Bible he owns. It kind of makes sense when you think about it, because some of Jesus's messages are similar to Native American beliefs.

Maybe it's a generational thing. I'm only 25, but I'm also mature and somewhat successful, so I feel that I should be able to understand both sides... but I still just don't get it. People grouse and moan about how much it inconveniences them when someone else talks on their cell phone at Applebees, at the mall, or walking down the street. I don't get it.

How is talking on the phone at Applebees creating any more noise than talking to the person next to you? It's not hurting anyone. I could understand if it were MY friend that was talking on the phone WHILE he or she was hanging out with ME, but if if there is a stranger, why should I care whom he or she talks to and whether it's on the phone or in person?

You know what's ruder than talking on a cell phone in public? Daring to chastise a stranger about his or her manners! Chill out, people...

Can you prove to me beyond a shadow of doubt that you exist?

If you can't, how can you be sure of anything else?

I don't think it is possible to prove you exist. You could just be a bad dream I have been having for what I believe has been my whole life.

Hurting me won't work because I could just be dreaming that you hurt me also.

Can you prove you exist?

Well I'm a muslim girl and sometimes I just feel so suffocated. All the rules in Islam sometimes really make me think that even breathing might be sin. Will I get punished by allah for thinking that way? I'm 14 and whenever I satrt complaining abt how some of the other muslim girls in our area can't even show their hair she goes out of her way preaching about how my opinions are sinful.
