IF given the choice, which one would be the moe acceptable evil? I only say evil because as far as the catholic faith is concerned, they're both evil. Masturbation or pre-marital sex? I don't quite see y masturbation is wrong. Not because of the psychological need or anything, but see, God gives u urges, and yes, he gives u prayer as a way out...but what if that doesn't work? Isn't helping urself better than having someone else help u outside the bonds of marriage? I mean, ur not hurting anyone by doing 'it" urself, so what's the harm? Y's sex a sin anyway? God gave it to us to use responsibly, but even within the bonds of marriage, it's still taboo to speak of it at all. WTF?!

You know what's really a sin? People who can't even spell out the tiny word "why".

It isn't only the Catholic faith that teaches this. Other Faiths do as well.
Religious teachings aside, I know of two marriages wrecked because the partner in both cases had been addicted to masturbation. Because it is a self-centred occupation it can affect the ability to relate as happened in these cases. But whether they became addicted because they already had communication problems I don't know. So yes, it can hurt others. Ultimately, like most self serving pleasure, there is always the danger of addiction. In this day and age it isn't possible to marry young - which would be the "natural" solution to the problem. The sex drive is such a huge force it is important to expend ones energy in as many positive activities as possible, give in as many unselfish ways as one can and moderation in all things that are self serving

Sex is a gift from God, a physical celebration of the love bond that exists between man, woman, and God. This is why it is only for marriage, and must always be open to life. All other forms of sex - adultry, fornication, masturbation, homosexuality, etc. - are against this and therefore wrong.
Masturbation does hurt someone. It hurts you. It teaches you to use yourself as a tool for self-gratification, no different than you'd use someone else for the same reason (masturbation = self-fornication).
Yes, we have urges and natural desires, but we are to temper that, discipline ourselves and use self-control, otherwise our passions control us and we become a slave of them.
God bless.

You don't have a choice, if, in your belief, both are sin, then both are sin. There is no one sin greater than another. All sin is sin, and all sin is forgivable.
The reason for no masturbation is simple. It is a waste of seed, and I know that it's somewhere in the Bible since I remember reading it, but, I can't tell you chapter and verse on this one.
Perhaps someone can pull it out for us.
Personally though, I'm not Catholic and I don't believe masturbation is a sin.
Furthermore... Sex actually is marriage, if you go by the old school. Sex itself is a covenant between a couple before God.

Neither is acceptable.
Both are a violation of the marriage bed because both involve sexual pleasure outside the bounds of matrimony.
The urge is a sign of health and vitality, but the fruits of the Spirit include self-control. It's never correct to say just because one has the urge, it's okay to indulge in it. Masturbation is completely self-centered and selfish and therefore exactly contrary to the message of Christ, which is self-sacrificing and self-giving. You hurt yourself by doing it and you destroy your attitudes about what constitutes proper and holy sex. In fact, your whole attitude is pretty whiny, "Gimmee what I want! I want it NOW! MINE MINE MINE!" Just like a 2-yr-old.

Use of sex outside of marriage is definitely wrong.
It would obviously involve another person in that act.
A sin is doing something you know is wrong, anyway.
That also presumes you had the freedom to choose;
e.g. Someone who is raped, is not committing a sin.
Masturbation was considered wrong by Thomas Aquinas;
because he thought the 'seed' was actually human beings.

Thank God I'm not Catholic. whew! I'd be condemned to Dante's purgatory.. The "whole sex" and catholicism thing came out of some historical issues related to STD's such as syphilis and Gonorrhea back in the late Roman empire.
Catholicism tended to drag it's heals coming into each new century and keeping it's parisheners in everlasting ignorance.
