This is something I've never understood. I've heard numerous people talk about them, but it's hard for me to understand since sugar makes me feel one way only-- lousy. I've never experienced any positive sensation from sugar. What is it like?

Christians may view it as taking care of God's backyard before the "New Jerusalem" decends from the heavens. (as in Revelations)
Buddhists may view it as taking care of their own universal consciousness.
Pagans may view it as taking care of their mother, Gaia.

If we accept that the Bible was written by a bunch of people who were trying to lay down some rules about how to live, isn't it probably that the NT was written in response to the same outcry we see here on Y!A regarding the moral terpitude in the OT? I personally don't believe the OT or the NT, but I think most of the really immoral stuff - slaughter of the innocents, flood, Lot & his daughters, etc. - is in the OT. The really unbelieveable (or "miraculous," if you believe in the Bible) stuff is in the NT. Both of these are major flaws to me. If I decided to accept a Holy Book of some sort, it would have to be both moral and rooted in the physical world. I'm not saying there can't be a - as atheists put it - "sky pixie," but if sucha pixie is there, he should only play as big a role in the book as is evidenced in every day life, which is to say, as something many of us suspect but none can quantify.

I don't mean emotional support like, like "don't take things personally," or prejudicial things like "Watch out for So-and-So because he's crazy," but practical stuff about getting around here and getting your answer read.

I would say: if you find you're going to be more than the 5th or 6th answerer to a question, don't expect it to get read by anybody, including the asker.

and

the shorter the answer the more likely it'll get read.

Any others?

I know Muslim say this, but even Jesus said it (or in other words, "May you have peace"):

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." (Luke 24:36)

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" (John 20:19)

Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." (John 20:21)

...Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" (John 20:26)

are no limit to the number of Q and A now. I enjoyed being up all night last night giving my asked-for opinion on subjects I know little about. Even tho I have to be up all day doing other things, I will definitely return at the first opportunity.

But my question: What is my inspiration to reach Level 6???? What's the prize, the pay-off?

So, I've got no problem with homosexuality. What I do have a problem with, is getting it forced down my throat every couple of minutes (no pun intended). Everytime I turn on the TV, a new gay character is introduced. It does nothing to enhance the story other than to say "we're more tolerant than the other network". Why do I, as a viewer, need to be in the middle of such politics. As a tolerant guy, the random insertion of gay characters (again, no pun intended) isn't going to make me more tolerant, just upset at this manufactured diversity.

It's not just tv, either. It's books & movies as well. As far as I know, REAL tolerance comes from knowledge, understand & acceptance...not from constant immersion. Beyond that we live in this media-led police state where a man will be vilified if he doesn't accept homosexuality. Isn't it that the exact same kind of persecution, but in reverse? Outside of a legal context, why should anybody be told who they should or shouldn't accept?

After years of doing it,I have come to the conclusion it does very very little good, and what it does do is short term.
It also tends to create a situation where ppl stop trying to do for themselves.

(I asked this in Singles and Dating, but I think it applies to Religion and Spirituality, as well.)

When we find someone that we love, we often go to great lengths to prove that love for them. We will sometimes do things that border on insanity. That, to me, is selflessness.

On the other hand, when threatened with the loss of that person from our lives, we will sometimes do things that would never otherwise cross our mind in order to keep them. We do so not for their sake, but for our own. That, to me, is selfishness.

So, I ask...is love an act of selflessness, or selfishness?

In recent months, I have met and talked to several people who claim that using drugs (always hallucinogenics...go figure) gets them in touch with God. Often, when confronted with a simple question of "How?", I see the wheels of their brain spinning in the mud, searching for the right answer.

Even as an atheist, I see this as little more for a justification to use drugs, and not feel bad about doing it. I am, however, extremely and legitimately curious if there is anyone here who takes drugs as a way to reach enlightenment, and if so, if you would discuss your experiences here.

I'm not even saying to "kill" God like Nietche did, but so many people create dogma around their perceived harm of God. Anyone else here raised Catholic, say your "Act of Contrition," and you'll see what I mean. Others are against advanced genetic science because of a perceived harm of God.

This is an open discussion, so please share, I found this about St Terese the LIttle Flower, I am not Catholic but I found this statement something I think that would please God because it does not draw attention to ourselves, Yes, you may do big, prominent things for God, but do you do the tiny hard sacrifices, do you give away what you love the most to someone who needs it ?
The only way I can prove my love is by scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every glance and word, and the doing of the least actions for love
I think these little "sacrifices" are most pleasing to God because they do not draw attention but are the building blocks of the Godly world, What do you think and what have you experienced ?

About men,

What do men and mascara have in common?
They both run at the first sign of emotion.

What has eight arms and an IQ of 60?
Four guys watching a football game.

How do men exercise on the beach?
By sucking in their stomachs every time they see a bikini.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST.

How To Ask A Man To Do Something :
Always remember these six important rules when asking a man to do something:

Make sure the man is conscious.

Crash the hard drive on his computer and line the bird cage with the sports section.

Be brief! Limit your nagging harangue to two, three hours, max.

Reward him for cooperative behavior. Offer to cook him something that doesn't have a peel-back cover.

Punish him when he refuses to cooperate. Microwave his remote on high power for 55 minutes. Rotate 1/4 turn, and microwave again for another 35 minutes.

Use "would you" or "will you" instead of "you'd better" or "do as I say NOW"

Jesus is alleged to have died for our sins right? How does that work exactly? Why couldn't god have just got rid of them with out killing him? And surely dying with the knowledge that you are gods son and coming back to life kind of make it a bit unremarkable? Surely a atheist mother dying to protect her children is making a far more impressive act?
