This is something I've never understood. I've heard numerous people talk about them, but it's hard for me to understand since sugar makes me feel one way only-- lousy. I've never experienced any positive sensation from sugar. What is it like?

As the human body produces energy, it will burn sugar first as it is in a form that is easy to convert. As a result, when you take in a lot of sugar, your body rapidly converts it and produces a sudden burst of energy. Once that energy is expended, you feel a "let down" as your body adjusts to not having that extra "burst".

It doesn't happen to everyone. When I have too much sugar, I feel euphoric.

But then the pancreas kicks out a little too much insulin to bring it down and it gets too low, resulting in hypoglycemia (which seems to cause depression for me), which gives me cravings for more sugar and high-carb foods.

So I try to stay away from sugar. This makes me feel better and helps me control my weight too.

I think it's a old wives' tale. Moms will swear that sugar make their kids hyper, but after 2 of my own I have yet to see any confirmation of it.
