My husband was with a co-worker when the topic of religion came up. She, being Mormon spoke of her beliefs and my husband, being more spiritually open-minded spoke of his beliefs. Somehow she became offended because he did not agree with what she was saying. He simply wanted to inform her that he believes all paths lead to God, not just the Mormon path. She took great offense at this, just because he said what he believes. Now she has gotten him in trouble with their boss for harrassment. His job is on the line and I know in my heart that he did nothing wrong. Can someone please tell me if this is right for a company to reprimand someone for simply stating their beliefs. Also, we live in a country where the constitution protects our right to chose our own religion. Does this not apply in the state of Utah?

Granted labels are what they are, woefully incomplete words that can't really convey ideas adequatly. Given that, we still have to label groups something to talk about them. Language is just a b-tch that way. LDS people just sounds silly, it makes you sould like you have a disease that we have to abreviate. So what's a one word (Protestant, Muslim, Buddhist etc.) thing we can call you (them)?

Please, leave aside the "Cult" and "Brainwashed" jokes. Seriously, I'm just asking and not trying to engage in Mormon-bashing.

Obviously I will be fired, but I'm okay with that at this point. But, can one be sued for slapping someone? I have just had it with this ****** taunting me at work. He's always saying "I'm about to pimp slap somebody around here" so I'm thinking tomorrow I'm going to walk up to him and just backslap the hell out of him.

So, one of those funny-ish rhetorical-like questions (i.e. "Before they invented drawing boards what did they go back to?") came up in a conversation yesterday, between my friend and me.

The question was, "Why do scientists call it research when they're looking for something new?" To which, my friend wittily replied, "Because they missed it the first time around!" (lol)

However, he then added, "But, of course, there really isn't anything NEW in this world, everything has always been here."

This is, of course, an old concept (DUH!) that I would like to put out there to everyone, just to see what interesting responses come back!

My answer was... MUSIC! Music is one of the only things, that I could quickly think of, that can be considered new. Of course, not the idea of what music is, but rather the music itself! =)

Oh, and just for kicks, here's another one of those funny questions... "Why is a wise man and a wise guy, considered opposites?" *wink*

the fact that Jesus (your son of God, Lord of Lords, etc) saying that you must hate your parents, family, etc if you wish to be his disciple? As stated in Luke 14:26. Why must you hate? Your God and savior said this and it is obviously perfect and not up to interpretation, it must be followed.

Lets say hypothetically that there's this cute dude who goes to my college, is in some of my classes, and goes on the same train home as I do. Lets also say hypothetically that the other day while we were getting on the train I may have accidentally grabbed his ***, before legging it to another door...
I'm pretty sure he didn't see me, but just in case how exactly can I talk my way out of getting the crap beaten out of me? I'm thinking either "accidental hand spasm", or "You have a fantastic ***"

I'm tired of all the selfish people out there. I do everything I can to go out of my way to help others, esp. my friends. But when I need a little help, or a favor, everybody turns and runs away. I think I should just become a jerk, and not bother with other people at all.

Many branches of Christianity have the "your church is as good as mine" attitude, however they can't all be right.

It seems that only one of the following is possible:
1. All churches are wrong in some ways (there fore not teaching the truth)

OR

2. One church teaches God's truth, and the rest are wrong.

I'm sure some will say "it doesn't matter, as long as you believe in Christ....etc". However, much of the New Testament is from the Apostles writing letters and trying to correct things that were "going wrong" in those areas. The letters didn't' say "do whatever you want...just believe in Christ".

Finally, assuming that God's church does exist (and by that I mean a church that God leads and inspires directly, possesses his authority, and is authorized to do his will), wouldn't they proclaim it to the world?

Which churches proclaim this???

And the mists came in from the moors - the chickens in the wee hoose went very very quiet and down from yon brae came a mountain of a man in a kilt and very little else? And the stories we shared kept us a tight and close clan - as with all tales from a magic place - they must be past on by word of mouth to spread the magic. For in all tales of magic there must be evil doers - and they came and they stole our laughter. The keepers now of the laughter are brave and honest clansfolk - look you to Jilly and Barbara and Justme and The Dragons - who though fierce fought only for the good of the clan - look to the warriors McTealc and Goldwing and O'Rielly for inspiration ......... the seed has been sown and now - as in all magic stories - it will grow and evil WILL be defeated. Watch out and wait for the wind to change again ...... the mist will descend and bring with it more magic than can be concieved in the mind of the wee evil trolls.

I am an atheist. I see Israel's right to exist as a nation and to govern itself. I also believe that Palestinians have the right to exist.

I also recognize the mass murder that both Israel and Palestinians commit against each other.

Both parties are wrong, two wrongs do not make a right.

However, Israel's violence and oppression against the Palestinians has been far more effective. The Israelis are killing about 7 Palestinians for each Israeli. Both sides have been killing civilians and children.

I personally think both sides are INSANE because they kill each other in the name of a god that doesn't exist.

Now when I express such an opinion I am called anti-Semitic - how ignorant is that?

I am like 1/10th or 1/8th Jewish on my Grandma's side. How can I hate Jews?

I'll tell you what I hate -I hate violence in the name of a god and oppression in the name of a god.

That is just anti-human. I am Pro-Human

Why are the most religious people the ones who say everyone else is going to hell, simply because they don't believe the same way? How can you claim to be the followers of a loving god, yet be so intolerant of all his other creations? How can you be so sure that you are right and everyone else is wrong? Do you actually think that the creator would only create SOME people to go to heaven, and make the rest burn in hell? Don't you think that God is better than that? That people can have their own ways to be spiritual, so long as they harm none? Why do you think that God needs people to fall down and worship him? And why, if you are soo Godly, do you mock the beliefs of others and revel in the idea that these other people will fry in hell?

I find no other question in the world so thought-provoking and emotional as “Why me?”

The world most often uses this question in response to a negative condition or circumstance:
I am sick, ill, have can cancer, or am dying...”why me?”
My loved one is sick, ill, has cancer, is dying, or died...”why me?”
Look at all the bad circumstance of my life...”why me?”

I can still vividly remember the night I broke down weeping before God when pondering the question, “why me”?
...and it WASN’T in response to a negative condition or circumstance!

Quite the opposite, it was a sudden revelation of God to me of His GRACE in my salvation.
When I realized the reality of hell, and the truth that most will wind up there, and that I would not and will not, I could do nothing but weep buckets before God, asking Him, “Why me?”

Starting with Christianity - particularly Catholicism; frm a young age I had a problem with it, there were many aspects I simply did not agree with & found it extremely difficult to follow. I was never given a choice, I was forced to go along with it, attend church, sunday school etc; threatened with severe punishment if I uttered a word of doubt. I know that this is not an unusual experience, particularly where I live. As children we were told this is how it is, no-one dared express anything but true devotion. The Bible says those who do not believe will go to hell (or be left behind to experience hell on earth).

Similarly the Qu'ran states -

As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn them or do not; they will not believe.
2:7 God hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they incur'
Some more extreme views also consider non believers as infidels.

My teacher was talking today and said that she (as a Catholic) didn't follow the old Testament, that the old Testament was just for the Jews. In my religion we follow the old and the new Testaments because no where does it say "oh, we have the new Testament now, so you don't have to pay attention to what I said before". So in your religion do you follow the old and the new Testaments? (If your Christian of course).
And is that the position of all Catholics or just her point of view?
