Life is an arbitrary concept and very poorly defined. Is it something with the ability to reproduce? Fire reproduces so is it alive? Everything is physics. It's just a label put on some nebulous group of chemical reactions.
People are alive because they fit this definition according to most people.

Because they are. You can ponder this for a long time and never get it right. If you're willing to get past the faith and God BS and look at it objectively, you will come to the conclusion that we are alive because it's what is possible.
