we have a new testament as the bible says
Hebrews 9:15-17 15And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
16For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
Jesus did away with the law.
Gal 3:23-25 23But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Old testament teaches us truth but we are not bound by the law.
wondering if jon the chief has indoor plumbing (not allowed in the law)
wearing mixed fabrics or having a railing around the roof of his house. (James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.)

I'm not a practicing Christian, by the way. Depends what kind of Christians, but generally no they don't - or at least not literally. After all, Christians follow the teachings of Christ who isn't even mentioned in the Old Testament. The first 5 books of the Old Testament are the same as the Jewish Torah. According to the bible, Jesus said "I bring you a NEW way" and brought a new commandment - love your neighbour as yourself and do to others as you'd have them do to you. It was kind of an update and revision of the ancient Old Testament. Anti-Christians tend to criticise the O.T far more than the N.T because it's a lot easier!

This year I am actually studying the old testament and I am Christian. We no longer live by all of the commandments in the old testament though because when Jesus Christ came and died he fulfilled the law. It does have a lot of useful things in it though that we can apply to our lives today, and it also has revelations in it about current times, so it is a very good thing to study.

the old testament required works, and the sacrifice of animals in order to be acceptable to God, while the new testament through Jesus Christ as the sacrificial Lamb in our place provides acceptance by grace and faith.
the old testament also has the curse, and guilt.. while the new testament has freedom from the curse, and no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.
the old gives information on what led to the new. the old tells us about the creation. and has alot of wisdom in it that is of use for anyone now.
the new testament uses scripture from the old testament. the new showing fulfillment of the old.
and not all of the old testament has yet been fulfilled.
so the old still has its uses.
its too bad that your teacher doesnt think so.

Gentile believers were never under Mosaic law. The law given in the Old Testament was given by God...to Moses...for the people of Israel. As Jesus said in the new testament, He is the fulfillment of the law. I am not under law at all, I am under grace. Therefore, what I do is what Jesus said to do, love God with all my heart, mind and soul, and love others as myself. In these two, He added, are all the laws and the prophets fulfilled.

Yes...i think what she was talking about was the fact that the prophecies of the Old Testament were fulfilled by the New Testament...but still, we should still use both.
