A few years ago, a young guy I know was committed to the psyche ward of the hospital I was at. Nice enough fella, but definately got problems. A couple of the nurses there tended to discuss Christianity with him, and one of the doctors had nice chats with him about Islam. Apparently, from what I was told, a pushy Christian nurse was transferred to the ward. He started getting confused and nervous while the nurse ranted out her beliefs. The fella became very agitated and the nurses told her to stop. She continued. He then became vocal, and started to pace. She kept pushing. Long story short, she pushed his buttons and he destroyed the entire common section of the ward, put two nurses in the hospital and took down 4 guards and 3 county police officers before they got him under control. All charges against him were dropped, and the nurse was fired. Had it been any other subject, do you think the nurse would have kept pushing, or dropped the subject and allowed the patient to calm down?

Okay, some people gave me grief over my last question, but I won't give up. Why is it so easy to believe that "big bang" theory and eviloution and it's so hard for some to believe that God created everything? And why is it so hard to believe that Jesus died for all, and all you have to do is accept Him?

Every person on this earth has a soul that will live for eternity, either in Heaven or Hell. My prayer for each and every person is that they will accept Jesus and escape Hell. It is real, you must have a child like faith, so for the one who asked if I was twelve, thank you.

I've read that both nuns and sisters take a vow of poverty along with other things. But, there is a Catholic "Sister" who teaches at my college (a Catholic University). She has worked several years in secular jobs, dresses nicely and fashionably, wears jewelry, and does not look "poor" to me. What's the rules for Catholic "Sisters?" Can they marry? What other things can they do? I'm not Catholic, so I need your help. Thanks.

Rival churches compete for congregations - not least for the fat tithes they bring in - and the competition is waged with all the aggressive hard-sell techniques of the market place.

i know i cant always trust the media, but from what i see/hear. ONE white guy hung nooses in a tree and SIX black guys jumped him almost to death.i understand the outrage at the white guys actions, but it was completly uncalled for when the SIX guys jumped him. it was SIX to ONE. so then the 6 guys go to jail, ALL of them get out except for 1 (Mychal Bell) and he is still in jail because he has 4 prior violent convictions and he was still on probation when he attacked Justin Barker (the 1 white guy). how is this racist? (except for the nooses) i believe its called the LAW. 6 guys went to jail for beating up 1 guy. if u really think about it...notice that alot of ppl lately have been playing the race card. u cant do nothing anymore without being called a racist. to me the only racist part of this story is the nooses. the ppl in jena should get together to make it against the law to hang nooses, they shouldnt miss work to rally and protest for the law being enforced.

Translators use the same arguement when it comes to Jehovah's name. That we are not sure how it was pronunced in English.

To take the most prominent example, consider the name of Jesus. Do you know how Jesus' family and friends addressed him in day-to-day conversation while he was growing up in Nazareth? The truth is, no human knows for certain, although it may have been something like Yeshua (or perhaps Yehoshua). It certainly was not Jesus.

But we would never stop using Jesus name and replace his name with titles like "Teacher," or "Mediator" would we?

Of course not !!!

Then why do they feel comfortable doing that with God's name Jehovah?

if the bible is the word of god why does the bible only refer to god in the third person? the claim i've heard time and time again is that those who wrote it had the holy spirit flowing through them. so shouldn't the bible be written in the first person then? shouldn't genesis and all the books that follow read like the following: on the first day, i created heaven and earth. in stead of: on the first day, god created heaven and earth.

So, we have all heard that Kathy Griffin upon accepting her Emmy said something inflammatory toward God....(I get what she was saying...all these rappers thank God, etc.. for their awards, while their music/deeds are not Godly...a bit hypocritical)

Anyway, in response, this Christian group spends $90,400.00 for a newspaper ad....Kathy Griffin's celebrity becomes even bigger because of the controversy, etc...

So, how many people were helped with this $90,400.00? Why are so many religious organizations just throwing away money...money that was tithed to God?

They took out a newspaper ad! Geesh folks....how many hungry people could this money have fed? Is this good stewardship?

Your thoughts?

I am christian. My philosophy on life is that life is short and furious. I understand the need for thorough investigation, but considering that some metaphysical issues can't be resolved through senses or evidences, why do you still hold out? Isn't it your hearts unopened to the possibility of the goodness of God? Don't call me an evangelist; i am not.

I really feel this life is too short to understand anything substantially, including the things of God. Believing doesn't mean I am lacking intellectual tools. It could be a variation of an agnostic seeking after goodness but having benefit of doubt to bridge the gap between belief and nonbelief. Yes, how you say "it is ridiculous" makes sense but just be sure to thoroughly and humbly be thoroughly sure it wasn't for other reasons besides evidence. The things of God may not workin the ways we expect. When we "let go" of whatever that holds us back and open up our hearts and minds to the possibility, you may need no evidence.

.... feel that they need to insult other people's beliefs?

I'm not saying all Aethiests do this, but if constantly insulting Christians and trying to crush our beliefs is trying to 'show us the truth,' I really don't get it. You can choose not to believe in God, He gave you free will, but is it really necessary to insult us and such?

Why does it bother you so much that we have belief?

What do you think? If we have the right to worship how and what we like, does that also mean we have the right not to worship?
