Are you really misinformed or stubbornly ignorant?
I'm a freethinker. I KNOW that, ultimately, the holiday is based on astronomical data involving the tilt of the planet which causes the 'winter solstice' or 'Yule' (sometimes called that by Druids and maybe Wiccans). It is the shortest day of the year and was celebrated by different pagan tribes long before the Romans came and eventually turned to Christianity. Think about this...Would any livestock be out in the open for shepherds to 'abide by' in the winter? Would a pregnant woman who is not an indentured servant or slave be made to give birth out in the open during the winter season? I saw an article that stated the nativity scene was first designed by an Italian monk as pure entertainment but people liked it so much, it eventually became tradition to decorate that way.
I love that time of year and even Christians will admit it was originally pagan. Where do you think a lighted and decorated Xmas tree came from? (BTW-'Xmas' is just an abbreviation-no need to get excited that it's a derogatory statement of some kind); holly, ivy, mistletoe-all have pagan tradition associations; I think the St Nick idea was a German woodworker who had a desire to make toys for the kids n his village and that has remote Christian ties but history shows that the pagan religions celebrated this time of year long before Christianity came along.

You're extremely delusional. Did you put your fingers in your ears, close your eyes, and start humming really loud after you posted this so you wouldn't have to see the responses you'd get?

Jesus is a myth..... and even if he WERE a real person scholars estimate his birth would've been more towards the middle of the year, NOT the end. christianity adopted the winter solstice holiday and turned it into christmas so they could more easily convert pagans to christianity.

christmas is not a pagan holiday, but it IS a derivative of pagan customs. The evergreen tree, the candles on the tree (lights nowadays) ..... all of it was taken from the pagan traditions. Just like easter was plagiarized and christianized and essentially bastardized from it's original tradition.

Actually, Christmas has everything to do with the Pagans. They started the holiday which FYI had nothing to do with Jesus before the Christians stole that holiday just as they have Easter, Halloween etc from them.

And no I don't like Christmas because it's no longer about loving and caring for your family and loved ones, it's turned in to nothing more than another corporate holiday all about the goods.

You don't know much about History do you? You can love Christmas all you want but how can you expect people to believe you about Gods love when you make FALSE statements?

Did you know that most pagan don't even believe there is a Satan! Satan is a Christian invention not Pagan!

I feel very sorry for you! I hope some day you will learn that God does not want you to be closed minded!

Blessings!

Actually, the Dec 25th date IS based on pagan beliefs. If Christ even existed, he would have been born in the spring, not in December.
Even the Christmas tree is a pagan symbol. It has nothing to do with Christ. Christians hijacked those dates and symbols and attached them to their religion.

The pagans of northern Europe celebrated the own winter solstice, known as Yule. Huge Yule logs were burned in honor of the sun.
Mistletoe was considered a sacred plant, and the custom of kissing under the mistletoe began as a fertility ritual.
The Druids used the tree as a religious symbol, holding their sacred ceremonies while surrounding and worshipping huge trees.

Read "Come out of Her, My People" by C J Koster and your tune will change.

I am not one to bash Christmas or Halloween, as I really enjoy both. But to call Halloween Satan's night and not realize that Christmas was placed in December, on the 25th specifically because of the pagan rituals, is not knowing your history.

Educate yourself.

1) it's not jesus' birthday
2) it IS a pagan holiday... it was even banned in the 1600's in both the UK and America as non-biblical
3) today it is mostly commercial, accounting for the majority of yearly retail sales in some industries.
4) "easter" is also a pagan holiday

Jesus does in fact love me. However you are blinded and an idiot. Read an encyclopedia read any history book and it will tell you the origin of Christmas is pagan.

Never fear though... many know and still celebrate. You don't have to give up your precious gift giving.

You are one lost individual.

Try going to the library some day. Educaton can be enlightening. Then you won't go around sounding so unintelligent.

All christian holidays and symbols were stollen from Pagans, before forcing everyone to be xtian.

You can't argue with fact. You are only following blindly what your parents taught you. Sad, very sad. You are just a robot- just what they want:)

Christians INVENTED the devil- we don't even know what that is.

did you know that in some of the earlier additions of your bible your savior was born in the spring? so...whyd ya guys steal our holiday? we had celebrations on the solstices and equinoxes. the date of your Christmas is pretty darn close.
originally, when Christianity and Catholicism were gathering followers (kinda like a certain religion worshiping the flying spaghetti monster) you sought to convert our "heathen" ancestors. so what better way to make the transition easier.
historically, what you guys didn't take you made Devil Spawn.
and please don't go on about our history being wrong. aren't you guys the religion going around still claiming that the earth is barley 2000 years old? we never claimed to know how old it was.
