Its interesting, that you find a parallel between "world allows more nudity" & that "the crime rate is lower". Perhaps the reason that their crime rate is lower has nothing to do with allowing more nudity on TV & has everything to do with that maybe they actually punish those who commit crimes.

And in answer to your question: That would be great if they would stop showing nudity & immodesty on TV!

I don't have a problem with it. I have been to countries where they allow it and the programs are no different then here, they just have the nudity.

I think the violence could be toned down a little at times. I do like a good gory movie every now and then but it seems like some of the violence in America comes from copycats that are doing what they see on TV. Not that this is all of the crime but that is what I see.

Good question.

All you have to do is change the channel if you don't like it, so I have no problem with it. I'm an adult. I can decide for myself what is appropriate and not appropriate for me or my family to watch. Very few televisions these days do not have blocking mechanisms for keeping small children from watching trash like "South Park" or whatever. What else do people want? No one is being forced to watch anything.

That said, it is actually not true that all countries that show nudity and violence on television have lower crime rates. That's a misleading statement that proves nothing. Ultimately, though, television reflects culture more than it causes it. If there is violence and sex on television, it is because people are interested in it.

I think maybe there is a little tooo much. I do love action movies though.....i have never committed an act of violence or plan to.

But yeah, if i don't like whats on, i can just turn it off.

Same thing, if you have kids....can block channels.....just about everyone has a cable box now....its really easy to set up a code on that.

If someone really can't distinguish fake from reality, although the tv programming may fuel some of their actions, its still not really the problem.

I have no problem with either on TV. personally I think the violence is more damaging to kids than nudity could ever be but my TV has an on and off button which I use when my son is around. I also do my job and keep an eye on what shows he can watch and I wait till he's in bed before I watch shows with more violence in them.

European and South american TV show more nudity, but not as much violence.
America is a gun culture. Where cowboys settle their arguments with bullets. That's apparently cool to americans.
Everyone else calls it insane.
Me? I'll go for nudity over violence ANY day of the week!

I don't really want to see anything too violent on TV, but, I have thought there should be more cultural tolerance towards nudity for years. I'm very comfortable with my body around most people and don't care how I'm dressed around those who are equally comfortable.

Nudity doesn't bother me.
Gratuitous sex and violence, I wish was on later with more warning. I hate when some gods awful and somewhat scary commercial comes on and I don't' have enough warning to change it before the kids see it. Video game commercials are the worst.

Violence needs to go for the most part. We shouldn't be desensitizing our kids to it, because increasingly, they are seeing violence as a means of conflict resolution. This can only lead to disaster.

European television routinely shows nudity, and no one thinks twice about it. it must also be noted, as you pointed out, sex crimes in Europe are substantially lower than they are here. Of course, prostitution is legal in much of Europe, too, but that's another discussion.
We behave like a bunch of five-year-olds whenever we are confronted with naked people. Then, hypocritically, we use sexual imagery to sell everything from pizza to toothpaste. It's insane.

Wishful thinking that it can be controlled. I see alot of atheists are alll for depravity though...training up children is about more than physically shielding them from what's bad...its about teaching them that IT IS bad and why. But then that obligates you to Walk what you Talk and lord knows, atheists hate being bound by moral standards even for the sake of their own kids. If you think its ok (in private) and you teach your kids that...dont be suprised at all the OTHER stuff they'll do 'in private' when you arent watching THEM. Its setting a poor example (Parenting 101) 'do as I say but not as I do...' It fails every time.
