.... feel that they need to insult other people's beliefs?
I'm not saying all Aethiests do this, but if constantly insulting Christians and trying to crush our beliefs is trying to 'show us the truth,' I really don't get it. You can choose not to believe in God, He gave you free will, but is it really necessary to insult us and such?
Why does it bother you so much that we have belief?

To some of the people who are getting upset at me (I have received EMails as well as answers)
Sorry I spelled Atheist wrong, and notice I said 'not ALL ATHEISTS.'

I really like your question. I don't know why people have to make derogatory comments about other people's beliefs and it really bothers me as well. Why can't we all just agree to disagree? I would never put down someone else's beliefs no matter how much I may disagree with them. It is what makes us all different and unique. I am so happy to see other people who feel the way I do! Thank you for your question!

Human nature to think you are right and others wrong. It puts people on the defensive if they feel that they are being looked down on, therefore, throw an insult to belittle the other person. It's not just an "Aethiest" reaction. Christians do it too.

It doesn't bother me in the least that you believe in god. Everyone needs something to believe in and we should respect that we all have different paths that we believe are right for us.
But can you really say it is only atheists that do the insulting? Maybe some Christians need to learn to respect and tolerate us as well.

Hello Dear Christian!I think the Reason for Atheists to do that is the same Reason that some Christians have. Some Christians try no matter what to make you Christian. But the calling has to come from within you and maybe there just not that sure about there believes themselves so they have to voice them constantly....PIA

Why does it bother so many Christians that an atheist doesn't believe? Then go on to tell them to convert or spend eternity in hell. Which is highly insulting. And trying to remove their right to believe as they will.

i can't tell you how many times i've said this to christians who've tried to convince me to convert.
i guess both sides only think the other side is doing it... i guess we're all hypocrites after all. :(
...that is, just some of us are giving the rest a bad name. most of the religious people i know are fine with the fact that i don't believe in god, and vise versa. but some are constantly nagging me to believe in jesus, so now i think of all christains as that way. is it true? no, of course not!! .... it's the exact same thing with many things, including atheists doing what you've described. i just wished it didn't happen at all!!

At first I was so upset when I read what atheists said about us- but really when you stop to think of it - it should not be surprising- Christ said we would be insulted because of Him. Look how He was insulted- to the point of death. Why do they bother to insult our beliefs? Because really they are mocking God- and they are trying to convince themselves that they are right. Hang in there, continue to share, and maybe one day, through something that someone shares in love, they will become a believer- just as C.S. Lewis did.

The reason that the topic of God is so big is because He is constently talking to people and asking them why they arent following His word. They get intimidated by the fact that there could possibly be a God out there that does love them. They have no guidence in their lives so they have to downplay other peoples'. they are always questioning that there might be a God and they might just be afraid to let go of their life because the devil has talked to them and persuaded them that there is no God.

I think it works both ways
stop telling us we are going to hell because we dont belive in the bible.
It does not bother us that you have a belief-- it is just that you people CONSTANTLY try to "save" us so you can get points with Jesus. It just doesnt make any sense.
Accept that we dont believe in Jesus and move on

Religion is a belief held near and dear and taken completely on faith - whatever you believe. Since its taken on faith, with no proof, they seem more fragile somehow and less able to withstand opposition.
I think its just a human reality that since we believe based on nothing - that belief has to be soo strong that we feel the need to defend that much more. This leads to strong reactions, that often come out as nastiness and simple meanness.
