i cant help wondering why it is that so many people find god when their lives are a mess - or even just they are feeling a bit down. no one ever seems to say, wow my life is going great hey i will go and give thanks to god as i now believe in him. im not knocking this i would just like to hear why people think that this is, as it seems almost to devalue a sudden interest in god - like its a last resort or something rather than a wonderful celeebration. i am particularly interested of course as it find this happening to me and wonder if there is any truth in these feelings.

I got home, got ready for bed and I turned out the light, but it wasn't totally dark because of the light on the building outside. I laid down in bed. I looked up at the ceiling and there were 2 hazy, white lights, one smaller then the other, that grew bigger really quickly as if they were far away floating closer. I was thinking of how strange it was. I was focusing more on the larger one, but could still see the other one that was to the left of it. I had the most horrifying feeling come over me. The light wasn't a light at all! It was a glowing face with the most evil and hate filled expression. It wanted to hurt me! As it came really close and before I knew it I dived out of my bed past the figures (i was screaming at the same time) and into the the room where my mother was sleeping. I woke up everyone. I was shaking for a while after and I couldn't shake the horror that I felt for a long time after until praying to god finally made me feel better. What did they want from me?

and "And nobody would be lonely".
any language besides English (obviously), and make sure it's exactly right, and you label what language it is in. if you can give me more than one, it's appriciated as well. and, i'd especially like if someone could tell me the Finnish translation, by the way. :D

My pastor was a devout Christian for around 60 years, went back to school (PhD) and after years of intense research and prayer, came to the conclusion that all he had left was faith, because he discovered that Jesus probably never existed at all, and too many other things to mention.
He quit the ministry and people kept saying that he never was a true Christian, or that he had some besetting sin in his life, or that he blasphemed, etc, etc..
But the truth is, that he simply learned more about what he believed and found it to be lacking so much that to continue to believe it would be ridiculous! Just like people who didn't believe in cells or atoms, or that the Earth wasn't the center of the solar system - when they looked through the microscope or telescope - and saw that what they believed just couldn't be - why, they were left with no choice but to CHANGE their belief!
I will stand by my knowledge FOREVER - that my pastor was a GENUINE CHRISTIAN. Now he's human - and better!

Sen. Edgar Espindola said he has proposed a law that would impose fines and enforced community service as punishment for adulterers in an effort to protect family values and shield children from broken homes.
"I believe a lot of my companions are going to support this initiative," Espindola said on Tuesday. "This project should motivate Colombians to reflect on the importance of the marriage, the home and the importance of family."
He said aggrieved parties could take complaints and evidence such as photographs to local family judges, who would decide to impose fines of up to 20 minimum monthly salaries -- around $4,000 -- and obligatory welfare service.
Spouses forgiven by partners would escape punishment.
Some local radio commentators joked the proposal would get short shrift in Colombia's Congress because lawmakers were likely to want to hide their own indiscretions in the mostly Roman Catholic country.

If you praise God for all of the good things and say things like "It's God's will", why don't you blame him for ALL of the bad things. You know. Floods and Hurricanes and Wars. When your house, built on a flood plain is floating, your prayers are being ignored, why don't you put the blame on the one who is controlling everything and needs you to love him or else!
Are you afraid? I'm not!

Christian apologetics tries to convince people that you can know for certain that god is knowably real and that modern skepticism is not justified if you take the time to fully disseminate the arguments coming from atheists.

Yet for last few hundred years christian philosophers have took it to be a given that the nature of god's special revelation to man (well, modern man, anyways) is that it can only accepted with a "step of faith", that is, to start believing for no other reason than being introduced to christian theology. Logic says that you can never now god is real. \
Logic says that even if god is real in some way, it is because of god's "mysterious" yet beautifully esoteric methods that you can aren't allowed to know for CERTAIN, certain. At least not as certain as you can epistemologically be that you are, in fact, sitting in front of a computer right now.

A question was just asked and I set to typing away... it was quite familiar. I looked thru my answers over the past year or so and found that I had said the same answer nearly to the word quite a few times before...

Does this mean I should give up and actually do my job rather than R & S?

I mean, wouldn't that be getting close to blasphemy against the Holy Spirit - the unpardonable sin?

Is this why so many Christians still believe, even though it has been proven that the Piso (Sworn enemies of Julius Caesar) family wrote all of the Gospels and created the character Jesus and the religion of Christianity to regain control over the masses?

When it all comes out and it is finally proven conclusively that Christianity was just made up, will Christians be able to even comprehend it?

If not, is this a sign of deep brainwashing? If a Christian claims that Christianity is true and Jesus is true, just like gravity or their frienships with people are true - then does that mean that they're insane?
