Courage is a quality of spirit that enables a person to face danger or pain without showing fear, without flinching. Many people think that courage is the absence of fear, the opposite of fear, but this isn't true. Courage is the ability to act despite feeling fear, it's being able to set the fear aside and move ahead in a positive way. The more a person acts with courage, the more their self-confidence will grow, which in turn gives them more courage.

There is true courage where you are scared out of you wits, but do Something that must be done anyway. One twist to this and most other answers, is that imagination and creativity completely changes the true height of the courage. A person without imagination and creativity may not even think of their possible death or mutilation. A person with imagination and creativity will think of every single negative in doing the deed.

It's an abstract concept. Two people may observe another doing something; one may think that person was being courageous, the other observer may not think so. If I stand up for what I believe in a friend might say that I am being courageous - someone who disagrees with me may think otherwise. In war the winners of bravery medals are not necessarily being courageous. Sometimes a red mist comes down and they just go for it!

Courage is when people respect you for what you have been through, even if you dont think it. my best friend bought me a statue which she gave me for the courage i had shown in coping with a very bad accident, putting up with an abusive partner, and finally taking the decision to walk out and get myself and my kids to safety. I didnt think i was couragous, i felt i should have done it sooner. She thinks i had courage for getting up and out of there, even though disabled. I really treasure her gift to me, and now that i am settled i am beginning to think i had a little bit of courage.
