What I mean by "dumb" is any question that you can easily figure out a plausible answer for yourself with just a few moment's thought.

That is not to say that I haven't heard some profound objections on occasion, but the skeptics on Y!A don't seem to put much thought into what they are saying.

Here are two examples:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiOYuj90ccytAQIRSAahqcLsy6IX?qid=20070725111118AAI7ROI&show=7#profile-info-315d08ffe32ebab370b799724d5f19a6aa

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AluKasfwdinUQrOS_uS4b2Tsy6IX?qid=20070725105746AABExrz&show=7#profile-info-rfveH6yTaa

Since they are obviously not looking for real answers, what do they hope to accomplish, I wonder, by asking rhetorical questions that make it sound like all skeptics lack the ability to think?

Just bored?

First off I'm christian, but I'm not mean about it (my husband isn't even christian and is actually fairly anti religion) I will tell people about my faith if they care to listen, but I don't force it. I Love to learn about other peoples religious beliefs as well. I noticed most people who are defensive seem to be most Christians and atheists, usually seems like people of other faiths are pretty laid back and willing to discuss things openly.

I just don't see the point in yelling/being angry over that stuff....if you don't believe in God thats fine and makes me a little sad but what can you do?, if you do then great but how does it affect the lives of atheists (especially ones online who don't know you)

What it turns in to is people say that "all Christians are fundamentalist jerks" which he's learned isn't true obviously, or Christians thinking 'all atheists are jerks" which also isn't true.

Faith and religion is such a personal thing, why can't we let it be?

In the Old Tastement "blood" occurs 228 times and in the New Tastement "blood" occurs 99 times, or total of 327 times. So Jehovah God Is no less aware of blood and its significance than is modern medical science.

I keep hearing muslims saying their religion is the most peaceful religion on earth. And that Islam allows religious freedom. Yet when someone converts from Islam to another faith, good Muslims have a right -- no, a duty -- to kill you. Where is the freedom in that?

i figured that i would get out of the invite so she doesnt have to feel so forced to keep me on her invite list.

i have known about this event for a long time now, so simply saying that something overlaps with it wont do.

she likes to keep her conversations professional and can easily be offended.

can anyone give me options of what to say to get out of the invite???

I see on some of the questions people are referred to as "Trolls". What does that mean exactly? I know the mythology of a troll and what Lord of the Rings say what a troll is exactly, but what are yall referring to when you call someone a "Troll" or "Troll Destroyer"

Jesus said his church would be one. Most of these groups have appeared over the last 300 years.

Could this all be an example of "many will come in my name"

Given that none of these groups have the true faith can they be saved because a lot of them are very genuine people. They have just been led astray through personal interprtation of the bible (which is a sin).

I am primarily asking this question out or curiosity.
Please keep away from an emotional response
(ie. "God does not exist becasue there is suffering in the world - 9/11, Holocaust, etc." )
Please avoid insulting religion in general

It’s true! I don’t believe they exist. There is no such thing as someone who doesn’t believe in a sovereign god. I don’t care how much evidence you want to provide trying to validate their existence - I cannot believe that any person is a true atheist.

Atheists do not exist. They’re not real. If there were ever a true atheist, they would not invest so much energy in trying to convince themselves and others that God does not exist. The thought of God consumes them.

If someone claims to be an atheist, I think they’re lying. What they’re really trying to say is that God let them down, and they can’t reconcile how a good God allow such evil.

I simply cannot in good conscience believe in atheists.

My question: Do you agree?

Why has everyone developed the words "It's like" into their vocabulary. Either it is something or it isn't. "It's like.... you know... " I think it's left over Valley Girl Talk that made it's way mainstream. It's like... I don't expect to change the world.. but it's like... i'd really like to know how it started. "It's like...OMG" STOP... already. It's like... I can't take it anymore. Anyways, that aside... I just want to know who started this saying. Was it in a song? or a popular TV show? It's like... can anyone tell me? and like... don't talk smack to me! No question is stupid. (That was probably true until the invention of Yahoo Answers)

They say men and women are equal in Islam. Yet a Muslim man is allowed to marry a Christian or Jew girl, but a Muslim woman is not. That doesn't seem "equality" to me.

I mean drool-dripping, raving bonkers.

I just experienced an unfortunate series of exchanges with someone whom I considered friendly.

And the more reasonable, patient and open I was the more this individual flipped out, literally.

Is it like an unstoppable chain reaction, once started it cannot be denied?

Or is it a response to rational, patient approaches that makes the individual in question feel even more panic, recognizing how their responses are not nearly as enlightened as the words they are receiving?

Why the rush to judge based on assumptions and misunderstandings and absolutely no effort to actually discuss them to determine whether they are reasonable or not?

The more I hang out here the more I realize there are more than a few who are not well-balanced.

Ok, so colour me naive, but I do tend to assume the best in an individual until they give me ample reason to think otherwise.

Most questions asked can easily be answered by going to google such as the ones asking if there is a particular restaurant in a certain state or ones that ask the words to a particular song.

I am non-denominational but my fiance is Catholic and he would like a priest present at our non-denominational wedding. Does anyone know what the priest actually has to do during the ceremony so that our marriage can be blessed by the Catholic church? It's really important that a priest is present there for him.
