All my Catholic friends, including both those who embrace the faith and those who are trying to escape it, seem to be plagued with guilt.

Not having had a Catholic upbringing, I don't know the specifics but it seems to me that the clergy could lighten up a bit with their use of guilt to control the flock.

Despite other good things, this alone seems to be a big counter-productive 'force' to the overall message of love and kindness. It drives away some and enslaves others. I can't see this as the way Jesus would have liked it.

Can anyone explain to me why this is so common and an apparently necessary tool of The Church?

My brother is gay, and I love him more than ever. I accept him for who is, not how he chooses to live his life.....I have not seen him in a few years, and he is now here to visit. I planned for he and his mate to join myself and my boyfriend for dinner, however my boyfriend is being so mean about it. Any suggestions, on how to get him to just respect the situation instead of being so closed minded? I love him very much, and dumping him is not the solution....I just need some serious advice. Thank you.

i agree men and women should be equal. But I started to think.
> women have cheaper car insurance.
>women are more likely to recieve custody of children.
> women never buy MEN drinks.
>men are expected to purpose.
> rape is considered a MALE crime ?

it just seems women fight for equality, when really men are equally discriminated ? Or am i wrong ?

Approx. 50% of pregnancies end in miscarriage (many without realizing). This is FAR higher than the rate of pregnancies that end in abortion.

Why aren't they complaining about how wicked and evil god is?

Numbers 25:4 (King James Version)

"And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel."

In the bible doesn't it say that you shouldn't worship things other than god? Like when these people worship this golden statue and then god is furious at them or something like that. Isn't worshipping jesus wron too??

I don't understand how people can be so cheap sometimes...
Giving people rides-okay so gas is expensive these days...it's not like our job pay goes up with the cost of living so at times it can be a struggle to make ends meet ...I find it a bit offensive when I do someone a favor by taking them somewhere and I am not talking once or twice...I mean on a daily basis and they cannot even offer gas money...I mean seriously...if somebody is doing you a favor show some appreciation and help with the gas bill...I'm not asking to fill up my tank but 10 dollars would really help out more then you would know...
Ordering Food and Tips-I always like to tip...no matter if I am at a resturant or ordering food..but why must I be the only one to throw money in for a tip?...I know it's not madatory but hey...stop being so stingy with a dollar and throw it in to help out the person who is delivering your food...especially if they don't charge for delivery...

is that really too much to ask?

the church? The Bible states in 1 Timothy 3:15, "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth."

I read this in 1 Corinthians 3:11, "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ."

Then I found this verse in Ephesians 2:20, "And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;"

Then I saw this in Luke 6:48, "He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock."

From these verses, it appears that Christ is the "foundation" or pillar and ground of truth. Since Jesus Christ is also called the "Word" (1 John 5:7; John 1:1), it appears that the word of God (Christ) is the pillar and ground of truth.

I believe so.

I've heard this phrase more times than I can count: "Blacks cannot be racist because race plus power equals racism...and blacks don't have the power".

Words and language are a passion of mine and, when I break down the word "racism", the oft-cited definition of the word doesn't seem to fly.

In its most primitive sense, Webster's dictionary describes the suffix (ism) of the word racism, as:

1 : a distinctive doctrine, cause, or theory
2 : an oppressive and especially discriminatory attitude or belief.

Given this basic definition, how is it possible that racism can be ascribed only to a particular race in a position of power?

It seems to me that any race or any person can be a racist. Frankly, a few of the people who I would consider to be the most racist people I know are black people who are not "in power", as it were.

Do you agree? Disagree? Perhaps I have a fundamental misunderstanding of the term "racism", if I do, please explain your reasoning.

Here are the verses:

1 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, 2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means "king of righteousness"; then also, "king of Salem" means "king of peace." 3 Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God he remains a priest forever.

Obviously, this points to Jesus Christ who is our eternal high priest. But my question is really about Melchizedek......these verses make him sound like some sort of supernatural, eternal creation.....without beginning or end.

Should this be taken as a metaphor in this context?
Or should this just refer to Melchizedek as a type of Christ?

It states that Adultery, Fornication, Sex before marriage are all sins, not to mention Lust....

Now God 'fornicated' with the 'virgin' mary against her will, he is neither married to her, and Mary was happy with Joseph. Does that not mean that God is infact not only a sinner, but a rapist to boot?

Looking for some feedback on lyrics before I debut this at a local piano bar. To the tune of "Do-Re-Mi" -SOUND OF MUSIC.
(Spoken)
A song about the loves I have known ...
(Sung)
I'll start at the very beginning,
A very good place to start
At first, it was only Joe and me ...
Joe and me ...
And what a night it happened to be ...
Joe and me
(Spoken)
Then there was Ray and Phil and Bo and ...
Wait, let me make this easier!
(Sings)
Joe, a dear
But he was queer
For Ray, the Baptist preacher's son
Me, alone, left by myself
Til Phil, a convict on the run
Then Bo, who tied me to the bed
And ... (shrugs) the guy who followed Bo
The twins, who sandwiched me like bread
Still, I'm pining so for Joe ... oh, oh, oh ...
(Repeat)

You see them everywhere... and many of them are too young to be trying to look the way they do(some way too young), and they know what they are are wearing and why they are wearing it(Please, if you were only dressing for the heat, you wouldn't need yours shorts halfway up your a$$), but they get offended or frightened when you react to them or say something about how hot they look or how much they turn you on. I mean, aren't they trying to look hot and turn you on. Sometimes, I 'll get a big smile from a girl I'm staring at and I know I've come across one with a brain. Yeah, you know what you are doing!

Egypt on Thursday finally banned all female circumcision, the widely-practised removal of the clitoris which just days ago cost the life of a 12-year-old girl.

Officially the practice, which affects both Muslim and Christian women in Egypt and goes back to the time of the pharoahs

Her mother accused the woman doctor of negligence, charging that her daughter's death was linked to the anaesthetic and not the removal of the clitoris, for which she had paid 50 pounds (nearly nine dollars).
