I don't think men & women are equal & am not sure if it's possible for us to ever be 'equal.' I think the best we can aim for is to have the divide between us narrowed as much as possible & appreciate eachother as being different.

I agree that women are more likely to have custody of the children after a split & we shouldn't just naturally assume this is the best option just because she's a woman. Someone previously said this happens if the woman can 'prove they are a good parent.' No.... this just happens because she's a woman. End of story. Any other alterations to that have to be fought over in a court of law. I think this is unfair. You can't just assume that the best parent is always the mother.

I don't know anything about car insurance so can't comment. You simply cant say women never buy men drinks! Of course they do & if you're a man who is against buying women drinks, then don't!

Men aren't 'expected' to propose at all. Its not the day & age when you have to get down on one knee & then go & ask her father for her hand in marriage. If I met the right guy & wanted to marry him, I'd have no problem asking him. I got engaged a few years back & insisted on paying for half the ring. Times have moved on.

As for rape, it's seen as a male crime simply because men do it & (generally) women don't. If 10,000 rapes per year take place & 9,999 of them were commited by men.... of course its a male crime. Furthermore, it would be almost impossible for a woman to rape a man. Think about it.

Im not a feminist & do feel there are many areas where men are unfairly treated. I think we should meet eachother halfway & where the law is biased in favour of women & mothers, it should be changed.

You're wrong.

1. Women have cheaper car insurance because they are statistically less likely to get in an accident, and even then it only holds true that men have more expensive insurance between the ages of 16 and 25. That said, if a woman gets in a wreck that is her fault, she will have higher insurance rates than a guy with a clean record. It is not discrimination. It is statistics.

2. Women are more likely to receive custody of children, because they are more likely to WANT the children and to care for them. Again, it is statistics. More men dump their wife and kids then women dump their husband and kids. In cases where the opposite DOES happen, though, the man gets to keep the kids. So what is the problem?

3. It is inaccurate to say that women never buy men drinks. I have had women buy me drinks lots of times. If women generally don't, it isn't because of discrimination. It is because they don't have to! Men will buy the drinks, because men want the women to like them. Would you buy drinks for someone if you knew they would buy it for you instead? Probably not. If this is even a problem at all, it is men's fault.

4. You mean propose? That is a tradition that was started centuries ago... by men. Again, if this is even a problem, it is men's fault. We started that. We continue to perpetuate it. Truth is, however, that more and more women propose now than ever before. Why do you even care? What difference does it make who asks?

5. Rape is considered a "male crime" because 99% of all rapes are committed by men. BUT... if a woman DOES rape a man, it is still a crime, and the woman will still go to prison. But that happens so very, very infrequently that it is ludicrous to suggest that this is discrimination.

Considering these fact, your point would be?

I think your examples have a lot to be desired. Do think men and women should be treated exactly the same in all and every life circumstance?

> women have cheaper car insurance.
They have cheaper insurance because statistically they are less accident prone than men. How is this unfair?

>women are more likely to recieve custody of children.
Yes, in general most states give preferential treatment to women in custody cases. It's not always fair of course since there are women who aren't good mothers, but on the whole, women are more nurturing than men. It doesn't make them better than men, just different.

> women never buy MEN drinks.
This is just silly. I've had more than one woman in my life buy me a drink.

>men are expected to purpose.
This is a tradition, sure, but what's the big deal?

> rape is considered a MALE crime ?
Rape occurs when either one of the participants is underage (statutory rape), which women can violate just as well as men, or if a person is forcibly penetrated sexually, either orally, anally, or vaginally. Men don't have vaginas, but there have been cases of men being raped anally and orally by women.

For some reason you didn't choose counter examples to your argument, such as the inequality in wages between men and women, (men get paid more for the same jobs typically), or that men tend to advance easier in corporate structures than women, (no glass ceiling for them.)

I think that's just all part of our culture. More specifically:
-I wasn't aware that women had cheaper car insurance. I guess you learn something new every day.
-Men are more likely to go to the bar with the goal of picking up a woman. Women go out a lot to socialize with friends. With that said, I myself have bought guys drinks before, so never say never!
-Men proposing to women is just a tradition thing. It's not always the case these days.
-There have been instances of women raping men and other forms of sexual assault, but it's pretty difficult anatomically to have intercourse with a guy who isn't willing.

And none of these things are about equality. They're about social norms.

No one is really equal. There are lot's of things that men and women aren't the same on. Alot of people will understand what you are saying and they are valid concerns. And you sound a little pissed. I understand that too. Why is un equal bad? I think what we need to look at and ensure is that in this world. EVERYONE is given an EQUAL chance on the same field. Never lower a standard to include anyone, or raise standards to exclude them. To adress say your car insurance concept. I think that placed on an equal playing field women less liklely to be in a major accident, then a man. I think I don't know if that's true. Alot has to do with preception. Rape is more often comitted by men. It's just the truth. As for buying drinks and stuff. I never buy women drinks In order to talk to them. Then again I don't really like whores. There are plenty of beautiful girls who will talk with you and be your friend and fall in love with you. And even some will f* your brians out without payment of drinks or food, cars or jewlery. They may even do it cause they like you. i'm as jaded as you are trust me. just trying to see the up side. And I know there are some good women out there. They just usually aren't in bars and clubs.

Well women get cheaper insurance b/c we have a smalller chance of getting into acidents. (there are exceptions) But men do get a break when they turn 25.

Woman have more of an instinct when it comes to parenting. We think of the emotional needs of children.

Men have aloud themselves to offer drinks to women in order to get into their pants (there are exceptions... I bought drinks for my husband when we 1st met)

About proposing...men tend to blame a lot of woman about being at a point in their life that they were dragged into... so I never wanted to here from my husband that I made him marry me. He asked and I agreed. Some men take offense to be proposed to.

Most males are the ones that commit the rape crimes. It is hard for a woman over power a man. But it has been done.

I think your right, sometimes women take advantage of "equal rights" and twist them to make it look like they are not getting their fair share. But, let me point something out to you.

I work at a local CVS pharmacy, and we sell beer. And one time a male customer said to me, "why isn't the beer cold?" I said "I'm very sorry, it has been so busy today, that we have not been able to fill the coolers." And his response was, "well if you were my girlfriend I would slap you up and then next time the beer would be cold."

Your totally right on your point, there really isn't equal rights, there really isn't for men or women. My point that I just made could have been irrelevant to your topic, but the fact of the matter is, both sides are equally mistreated, and we both deserve equal rights, but- we don't get them.

Men and women are not equal. There's nothing wrong with that. We complement each other - which is exactly the point.
Lots of women have got some sort of inferiority complex that leads them to demand "equality." Those same women also expect softer standards to be accepted as firefighters (just one example).

We're equal when it comes to whining. WHA WHA WHA!!!
Go whine to your car insurance company and have them do something about it. Go complain to the judge who wont give custody to the men. Go yell at the bartender for letting a guy buy women drinks. And then cry because no woman is willing to buy you a drink. Boo hooooo. No one is puttting a shot gun on your head to propose.
