There is a scientific term for words in English which have the same origin and sometimes similar meaning but are spelled differently, for example guarantee - warranty or guarderobe - wardrobe.

Thank you!

"God came to my house and I killed him."

In the book, "House," by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, a man claims this. If someone said this to you, how would you react?

Perhaps my sampling is a bit small, but it seems to me that atheists tend to be fans of science fiction and fantasy. I've noticed this trend both online and in real life.

If my assumption is correct, do you think that that might be due to the fact that everyone LIKES to believe in magic, and/or likes to relate to fantastic stories, but atheists simply get their kicks reading novels. While religious types get their kicks by actually BELIEVING the chosen novel of their religion is real?

What I mean is, I like to imagine things like Harry Potter for example. I often daydream about such things. It would be neat if Hogwarts was a real place.

But theists actually DO believe in a Hogwarts of sorts. And their need for "fantasy" is fulfilled in church, etc. So they are often less interested in fantasy and science fiction?

This couple introduced me to Christianity a while back and I thought they were really good friends of mine. Now they don't care about me at all and don't want to be my friends anymore. It seems like they only wanted to get into God's good graces by converting me and that's the only reason they became friends with me or pretended to be.
I can't help but feel extremely hurt. And I know that having things go sour with them doesn't mean that I should walk away from Christ. But I can't help but associate all the bitterness I feel for them with the religion they helped me explore.
I was very serious about Christianity for the longest time but now it just feels so hard to have a personal relationship with Jesus. I am contemplating dissociating myself from religions, and just going back to who I used to be; a God-believer, who respects all religions but didn't particularly follow any.Does this make me a horrible person? If so how do I stop being angry with Jesus about what happened with them?

First off, I'm not an atheist, I was born & raised Christian, but now I have gone a different path.

There is alot of high & mighty, we're better than you, you are going to hell mentality & I've read it mostly from the one's that call themselves Christians.

When Jesus died on the cross did he not say, "forgive them father for they know not what they do"? If you are strong & unmovable in your faith, there would not be a harsh word coming from you. If your faith is that strong, then pray for those you feel have gone wayward.

I can see why Christianity is under so much attack. Modern christians do not represent God in any way, fashion, or form.

I know I'm generalizing, but everything is a generalization esp since I can't possibly know everyone on this board.

I may be misinformed, but I have head that Mormons believe everybody who has ever lived will be saved due to Jesus' sacrifice thereby giving everybody a second chance. However, only "good" Mormons will rise up to the "highest level" of salvation, that is, they will get their own planet to populate and become "gods" of those planets. For this reason they practise baptisms for the dead to "improve" the deceased's chances in the afterlife.

First, is this acurate and, if not, please clarify. Second, can you please show me from the Holy Bible the basis for such beliefs.

If the center of the earth lost all heat, the crust of the eart would no longer expand and water would come up and put even the mile high city, Denver, 727ft. below water. I see this as one step closer to proving Atheists / Agnostics do not know everything when it comes to biblical stories. Information like this aids in the evidence of Noah's flood. The story does say that some higher mountain peaks would stay above water, but that doesn't mean mountain peaks were as high back then as they are now.

Walk into any given group of people, stir up a conversation about Buddah, Alla, The Secret, or any "popular" religion and you can discuss for hours. But mention Jesus and it's like turning a light on in a room full of cockroaches. Something to think about...

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. - John 3:19-20

with proving other people wrong??

folks, i don't care who you are, christian, muslim, atheist, agnostic, whatever...

yahoo answers religion and spirituality is NOT a competition. you aren't "winning" anything by bashing other people's beliefs. you are just making yourself look like a fool. quit taking things so seriously and realize that there are people out there who (brace yourself)....MIGHT believe something different than you!

it doesn't make them less of a person, so why treat them like it?

seriously. it's not a competition.
