What is it about death or the threat of death and violence that shakes people and causes them to cry out humbly to God? Why does it take such extremes?

We have someone in our Bible study who is constantly using this phrase to acheive what ever they want done. This person is loveable, and kind, sincere in what they are doing. And I know that God does tell us things. In no way am I suggesting that He doesn't, but its come to the point that something has to be done. I have asked to talk with them and a meeting is scheduled between the two of us. To complicate things this person is an Elder. I have been praying, but would like to have some scripture to base my concern on. I love them and in no way would I want to hurt or offend them, nor do I want to quench what God is possibly doing in them. If you have no advice please pray that God's will is done in both of us.

or is it just reading out of context?

For all of the people that keep citing The Skeptics Annotated Bible as your source, what about the part that are Christians responses to the alledged contradictions on the same cite.

Do you feel like it is a waste of your time to read those as well, or do you actually see what they have to say.

Here is the cite to where you can read all of the responses. One of the cites has been responding to the so called contradictions for like 6 or 7 years.

There seems to be quite a mix of bigots and just general run of the mill idiots on here today. Now I'll admit some of these people may really be trying to understand homosexuals but gee, some of the questions are just plain ignorant. So I find myself wondering, are these people born stupid or do they "turn" stupid at some point in their lives? Should the government be trying to make sure these people can't marry or adopt? Is there a danger that that they will turn their kids stupid at some point? What can we do to stop the idiot agenda?

Homosexuality is natural. Idiocy however, can be cured once we understand the disease.

I am curious because I see from my other questions and answers over time, that it seems a bunch of you out there are interested in learning. Do you do any research? Ask others? How would you like to learn? Perhaps through a Yahoo Group? Any ideas? How could we learn for the sake of learning, without judgement?

When Christians simply make a blanket statement about what they think that Jesus taught (which is their duty, according to the Bible – to spread the teachings of Jesus), why do many atheists think of it as some type of a personal “threat” if you honestly don’t share the same belief? What makes you even think that a Christian must be talking to you personally, if all that he was doing is standing on the corner speaking to the crowd, or handing out pamphlets about salvation at random to everyone he sees (Or posting a general response to a general question on Y!A? Nobody knows who you are.)?

If you think that I am making this up, here is an example similar to what I see here in R&S every few days or so: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070627075215AAEXkEo&r=w#QMN4Xzu6UjSTqE6FnLRC7yUFgOkAAkgQKLpakUQ3hiInNilYpo1q

"you're going to burn in hell".....which is rude in and of itself-- (and I agree-although I disagree that their intentions is to have you suffer in enternity--but rather their concern for you-) so how does it make you feel then if/when a Christian would say "God Bless you"? Is that offensive? (I am not talking about the Bible Banging stalkers--just the average Joe)--you know like when you sneeze.......or if they do find out you're an atheist and they tell you, I understand --but would you mind if I say a prayer for you anyway?

surely answering all that much gives rise to a few questions doesn't it?

I've seen a lot of young people on here talking about virginity and how they want to wait to give this "precious gift" to their husbands. I have no problem with anyone doing as they please with their sex life, but when you start to hear things about pledges and their fathers giving them purity rings, it all starts to seem a little sus to me. Seriously, what kind of a father would do that?

I've also noticed another recuring trend that these same people tend to get married very young ie. 18,19, 20. There is evidence to suggest that young marriages have less of a chance of working out than older marriages. Why do so few religions recognize this?

As I said eariler, I think people should do as they please, but I would like to be able to understand the logic behind all this.

Any thoughts?

My husnand and I would like to start a web site/blog about people who think the smoking ban is now way over the top!

Why can't there still be areas/rooms in pubs for smokers only (not non smokers) as we are banned from their area.

We do not have the right to choose anymore and no one has done much about it.

My husband has written numerous letter to Parliament etc but to no avail.

There are many, many more objectional things in life. People who smell, noisy badly behaved kids, food wrappers etc left everywhere and anti social behaviour.

I can understand smoking banned in restaurants and in the workplace but to have to smoke a certain distance away, even though you are outside, is going too far!

Please email me if you agree. Lyn and Graham on lyn_flame@ yahoo.co.uk

I was just curious that because you don't believe in God (or unsure of His existance), if you are married or are going to be married, who performes the ceremony? Do you get married in God's name? Thanks for the info.

It is because God, in his infinate wisdom, knew that Adam was in denial of what he had done, was blaming Eve for his sin and what he had done and needed to confess and show himself vulnerable (naked) and personally responsible to God in the midst of his sin. God pursued Adam and disarmed Adam and arrested Adam with the simple question: Adam where are you. Not in what place but in what condition you are. Is this all you have obtained by eating the fruit? This mode of questioning is a gracious pursuit of God in kindness to bring about Adam’s recovery.

This is why it is important to confess to God AND/OR OTHERS our wrong doing. There is something about getting out of denial, stop blaming others, being real and speaking the truth with our own mouth that will set us free. It is a remarkable tool to recovery.

Do you agree?

When people tell you that you should be tolerant of other beliefs, how does that make you feel? I think of it as a betrayal to God to tolerate other gods, non-gods, witchcraft, etc. when the Bible instructs us Christians to shield such things. What are your thoughts?
