My husnand and I would like to start a web site/blog about people who think the smoking ban is now way over the top!

Why can't there still be areas/rooms in pubs for smokers only (not non smokers) as we are banned from their area.

We do not have the right to choose anymore and no one has done much about it.

My husband has written numerous letter to Parliament etc but to no avail.

There are many, many more objectional things in life. People who smell, noisy badly behaved kids, food wrappers etc left everywhere and anti social behaviour.

I can understand smoking banned in restaurants and in the workplace but to have to smoke a certain distance away, even though you are outside, is going too far!

Please email me if you agree. Lyn and Graham on lyn_flame@ yahoo.co.uk

I am a smoker and although I agree with the ban I dont competely agree with it!! A lot of our local pubs have built "shed" like structures for the smokers to go outside, as for outside an office it just doesnt look good for clients turning up and finding people hanging around puffing and the smoke going in through open windows. Drinkers cause a lot more trouble at week ends I agree, but even I dont like sitting in a restaurant and having someone puffing away while Im eating with my family.

Badly smelling people, food wrappers dont affect other peoples health, do you smoke in a non smokers house a lot of smokers I know dont.

Unfortunately it is something that us smokers are going to have to put up with! I do like the idea of the odd one or two smokers pubs in a town!

Our local hospital has had a total ban for a while and even try to say your not a allowed to smoke in your car when you are on their premises which I think is completely over the top!

I didn't know that about having to be a certain distance away if you are outside. It is going ridiculously too far. My local hospital has banned smoking in their grounds, I ignore the ban as I'm not going to be told I can't smoke outside. I am a considerate smoker who notices where my smoke goes and if there is a person with breathing problems next to me at a bus stop i would walk away a bit.
Nigel Farage of UKIP says it should have been left to the market to decide on a smoking ban, with pub owners free to choose whether theirs would be a smoking or non smoking pub. Then both smokers and non smokers and employees would be able to choose the best pub for them.
They always have to have hysteria over something in our society - at present its smokers, obesity and the environment particularly this carbon footprint thing.
Good luck with your campaign.

I do think it's unfair for smokers to an extent, but as it currently stands there generally are no separate smoking and non smoking sections in pubs and clubs so if your a non smoker it is unfair.
If you do not choose to smoke you should not have to breathe it in - at least a smoker could pop outside for a cig each hour, a non-smoker couldn't pop outside to breathe once an hour!
All this new law is doing is swapping the 'victims' round.

I agree with most, as long as all establishments are required to cater for both then no one would ever have any complaints!

As a heavy smoker, I agree that smoking should be banned in pubs, clubs and restuarants. Yes, I did use to smoke between courses but how sad is that? However, at work , we are supposed to be a non smoking site but, I have been told they will allow me to smoke ,outside, away from the building. No *** ends to be dropped and there will be inspections. I already feel like a leper (no disrespect to lepers) I do want to give up though and as this new drug is going to be available on the NHS in July I am seriously going to give it a try!

Smokers have a right to poison themselves but NOT to poison other people.
Alcoholics don't pour alcohol down your throats and druggies don't inject you with heroin ,fatties don't force you to eat hamburgers but smokers seem to think it's OK to make others inhale their smoke.
This ban is long overdue. Smoke in an airtight room with 50 like minded people if you must but not around people who value their lungs and their life.
I agree we should ban noisy, badly behaved kids too.

The problem with a smoking/non smoking section is that smoke can't read the signs...it always seems to get through. Both areas would have to be completely sealed off.

Yes it's over the top. A supposedly free society should not be governed down to the lowest common denominator.

A restaurant or bar should be able to decide whether to cater to people who smoke or don't smoke or both, and those who object to one that allows it could go down the street to the business that decided not to allow smoking. Of course, now that is decided for us all... by those that have the advantage of public opinion. For the record, I am a non-smoker, I am just open minded enough to see what we are allowing as a society.

Some rules are sensible, and privately owned businesses should be able to make their own rules regarding such things (within applicable laws), but we are on the path towards complete control and confinement. Those who are fine with things like this have not had their rights infringed yet in a way that is personal to them.

To those people... You'll get your turn, and it will come in the wake of your support for something that you should have known was wrong, and did so just because it suited your personal preference. And by then, it will be too late to return to the days of actual personal freedom and responsibility.

It's ok though, don't worry, Big Brother will be more than glad to hold your hand for you as you trade your capitalist common sense and freedom for your socialist sense of control and entitlements... or worse...

I'm a smoker and do have sympathy with non smokers, but I still think that there should be certain venues which allow smokers to enjoy the same leisure time as non smokers without having to dive into the street (especially when it's crap weather) to huv a wee puff. If you are looking for a smoke free night then you can go to one of the smoke free designated places, but if you fancy a puff, then you should be able to go to a puffer's spot! In Scotland, we suffered the poll tax until the great English punters revolted and we were all saved. Hope you can pull it off again!!!

have to say, im looking forward to the ban, it will be nice to go for a meal and not have smoke blowing across the restaurant, or even for a quiet drink. although most have seperate areas smoke travels. I owuldnt object to having seperate rooms tho as i agree forcing you to go outside is a bit anti social. and i think will only increase cigerette butts in the streets.
however is it fair to make non smoking staff have to clear glasses and serve food in a room filled with smoke..ok guess they could change jobs but most are students earning a few quid for beer money..should they be made to breathe your smoke??
im an ex smoker and i know ppl say we are the worst and i probably agree, but the few pubs that i have seen have done a good job on smoking areas outside, one i saw has made it "indoors by putting trellis up and then growing ivy up it and it looks really nice.
the down side to banning smoking is the sweat! i went to visit a friend in ireland and the smell of stale beer and sweat was almost as bad as the smoke (but at least it doesnt cause cancer)
think its one thing that nobody will agree on and everyone will have an opinion about. but overall like i said i welcome it and said so even before i quit..it forced me to give up if i wanted to completely enjoy a social life with my non smoking friends and i have to say was the best thing i ever did but can understand those who want the choice!

Total agreement from me. If I wish to smoke why may I not go to a 'smoking' pub? It appears I may no longer have a *** at the bus stop. Next step ban drinking in pubs.
Why is it when I write f a g it gets blanked? Is this part of the ban also?

Nope. I have asthma just being near smoke limits my social activities so I could care less if it inconviences you because all you smokers have done it enough to me over the years ...

If ANYONE else emails me over this bs again I'm reporting abuse .. I used to smoke okay? I did NOT vote I was NOT in the US and have no voting rights there any more. If you want to smoke be my guest but that doesn't mean I want to smell, taste, or breathe it in. I think there should be designated smoking areas... I don't force you to drink pepsi because I like it do I? So for ***** sake be fair!
