Because people are arrogant and foolish and if you have good health quite a bit of money you become and idolator
and find no need for GOD..HOWEVER all your money will
not prevent you from sickness, pain, heartached or death..
This is when people cry out to GOD..
If they knew GOD has many blessings for them from day one life would not be so dismal for many

well, I'm sorry to say that not all of them are real. Most of the people who make deathbed conversions are doing it as a last resort. They are finally faced with death and think "well, it's worth a shot". They don't really believe it, they're just scared. This is less likely to happen in the jail house conversions, since most aren't facing death, but some are and some have life sentence without parole and they too are scared. Yes, some are quite real, but most aren't.

Death bead conversions are obvious. Death is the unknown & there could be some fear involved.
As far as the jailhouse, people now have time to sit, and think about life, their life, right & wrong. They now have time to meditate, read, & feel things that a busy life would distract them from.
God takes the form of different things for different people, so when you say cry out to God, I assume you are not specifically talking about the Christian God, b/c the fact is that people in jail convert to other religions as well.

To me it's no surprise and are obvious than people act like it is.
In jail, you have plenty on time to think.. TOO much time, so obviously you will weigh out ideas and options, and possibilities. Prayer is a big tool God uses to reveal Himself to us, and allot of inmates end up praying, and through that God manifests Himself in their lives.
Death is final... so when you are faced with that reality, naturally you would question... what if?? There's no coming back and changing your mind after your 6 ft under.
Have a great one! =)

Fear of death and the unknown. Hell puts the fear into many, whether they previously believed in it or not.

"So many"?
How many? Did you just assume there are lots, or do you have any real evidence?
So far the record of believers claiming deathbed conversions hasn't been very good: ALL of the ones I've seen were simply liars who made up stories about such conversions, obviously to bolster their false beliefs.

Deathbed:people are afraid to die and the church preys on the week at that time.
Jailhouse: 1. It makes them look good. 2. Most people are Christians that don't live by what their own bible teaches.

If you're in a dangerous place where you might die, or you know you will die, a little added insurance never hurts.
A lot of religions claim that by accepting their faith all sin is washed from you. So, if you choose to convert right before you die, it guarantees that you won't screw it up and get to go to heaven.
In short, if that is true, expect a lot of sinister criminals to be waiting in heaven.

I don't think that death is the 'unknown'. It is death. We all know what it is, some people just are afraid to admit it.

Jail - Because "God" gives them the forgiveness they're looking for.
Deathbed - People fear the unknown, death is the ultimate unknown
