ok i am not a non believer. i believe in god. i believe faith heals us.
but i cant accept when some say that science is a bogus thing. i mean major scientific breakthroughs have not been around for long, but god and spirituality has been as long as humans have been.
so where was god when people were getting killed by plagues and other natural disasters ?
also is nt spirituality the major reason for most killings around the world ?
osama terrorises because he feels it is god's will does nt he ?
and bush went to war with iraq killing several since he felt the same ?
i admit science has its follies. but atleast it accepts it and tries to improve itself.
so where is the arguement that proves spirituality is better than science ?
my husband begs to differ. anyone else here to take God's side ?

I have just came back to the Catholic church, and am not sure which Bible I should use. My all time favorite is the New King James , but I really want a Catholic Bible to read also.
I know that we use the New American version for Mass
readings, but some Catholics say I should use other versions of the Catholic Bible for personal study.

Here is a list a list of the translations that others have recommended
New American Version
Revised Standard Version
New Revised Standard Version
New Jerusalem bible Version
There is one other version but I can not remember the name of it .
What is the difference in these translations?
I would really like to find these translations online to compare them to each other, but sadly I have not found an online Bible data base that has these versions... Any information that you could provide will be appreciated thank you for your time.
God bless

P.s This question is for any one who really knows about different Bible translations. Please be respectful

I keep getting censored on this question-I wonder why..

Leviticus 23:23
God said to Moses: "Tell the People of Israel, On the first day of the seventh month, set aside a day of rest, a sacred assembly—mark it with loud blasts on the ram's horn. Don't do any ordinary work. Offer a Fire-Gift to God."

I know that one difference is that kosher meats do not include the hindquarters of the animal, but as far as I know, muslims consider these parts halal. Also, alcohol is always forbidden for muslims, but its permissable for jews.

As far as the animal itself, as I understand it, to be halal to eat, an animal must be healthy before it is slaughtered. Do kosher animals have health standards?

In Islam, it is required that the animal be treated with dignity during its slaughter, including not letting it see other animals being slaughtered, and not tying up the animal unnecessarily. Then the jugular is cut, so that the blood gushes out, and the animal dies as quickly and painlessly as possible. Is this the same for kosher slaughter?

As I understand it, a rabbi must be present during the slaughter of a kosher animal, and he says a blessing as the animal is cut. In Islam, any Muslim, Christian, or Jewish man woman or child, but preferably an adult man, can bless the animal, . .

The Bible was obviously written way before 1865, so it is obvious that homosexuality as we know today, is not the same as homosexuality as written in the Bible.

-homosexuality of the Bible was that of temple prostitutes.
-Sodom and Gomorrah was about gang rape and inhospitality.
-homosexuality would have been discouraged because big families were needed in Biblical days to sustain yourself both financially, and for protection.
-do you think loving, monogamous homosexual couples were known in Biblical times...any historical reference to that fact?

-finally, do you know the Bible says more about divorce than it does about homosexuality? Actually, it says more about most all other sins...so, why the focus from fundies on homosexuality?

thanks for your polite input.

People are really possessed by their phones,I work in Walmart and you will see people everywhere with phones stuck to their ear and when they come through my checkout(I`m a cashier)they are so rude, they won`t look at you, speak to you or anything, they mindlessly throw their stuff on the belt and all the time they are yakking on that stupid phone and refuse to give anybody any kind of greeting or acknowledge that you might exist at all! I just think people don`t have any manners at all concerning cell phones,do you?

[I stole this idea from someone else's answer a few days back]

Assuming at least one of the 6.8 billion people on Earth is correct about the question of God.

How do you know that you go to the right church, let alone subscribe to the right religion?

Which would anger a jealous God more: going to the wrong church, believing in the wrong faith, or being an atheist?

If probability dictates that you're gonna choose incorrectly anyway, why not choose the freedom of atheism?

Really. You know, since having a choice as a woman is the same as being "pro-abortion" according to the anti-choicers. And if you're pro something, well, then I imagine it must be something you enjoy doing. So who of you out there got pregnant for the sole purpose of proving your right to choose by having an abortion? Because many people seem to think it goes like that, for sure.

I've heard about all I care too, not only today but likewise day before yesterday.
Why does it seem you have to be joking about this?

I think I know who started it, but why are you people getting amused by this kind of stuff. You get amused and then that just encourages him.

Would someone please explain why this is going on? Not only this morning, but I noticed several people doing it day before yesterday
