The Bible was obviously written way before 1865, so it is obvious that homosexuality as we know today, is not the same as homosexuality as written in the Bible.

-homosexuality of the Bible was that of temple prostitutes.
-Sodom and Gomorrah was about gang rape and inhospitality.
-homosexuality would have been discouraged because big families were needed in Biblical days to sustain yourself both financially, and for protection.
-do you think loving, monogamous homosexual couples were known in Biblical times...any historical reference to that fact?

-finally, do you know the Bible says more about divorce than it does about homosexuality? Actually, it says more about most all other sins...so, why the focus from fundies on homosexuality?

I am a MAINLINE Christian so I absolutely despise fundamentlists who have corrupted the Christian message and the spiritual abuse heaped upon those whom they "judge."

As politely as I can put it is fundamentalists are complete morons. I've come to that stage in my life where I just don't even bother with them. And if they get in my way and become abusive, I'll let the law deal with them.

Your points are well taken. A couple of fine tuning points or additional nuances, but essentially you are correct. Temple prostitution was frowned upon, not because of homosexuality, but because it violated not worshiping any other gods but the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.

Moreover, it was customary for soliders that lost a battle/war to be sodomized by the "winners" as a form of humiliation. And so that was discouraged as it involved "using" people and violation of one's own nature. In other words, if you are defined as hetero and you "use" a same sex person to "get off" . . .that is "using" or objectifying a person and against your "nature". That is what Scripture and Paul is "judging" as sin. But as to "same-sex" . . . or if same-sex relationships are your NATURE . . . the bible has nothing to say about that.

Fundamentalist morons only "study" what agree with their preconceived notions. They are un-nuanced and go against the "reason" God has created in humankind . . . as such they refuse to use and thus commit a great sacrilege against God . . . to remain in ignorance . . . the "sin against the Spirit that cannot be forgiven. . . IMO.

Yes, the Bible was written well before 1865. Yet, the Bible does address homosexuality in a very serious way, in the Old as well as the New Testament. The Bible does say it is a sin. I can infer you have a Bible, so open it up and read in Leviticus 18.22; Leviticus 20.13; and Romans 1.26-32. God does not hate homosexuals, but he does go against homosexuality.

The Bible has condemned the act that is defined as 'homosexuality' , along with all other things that are to be regarded as sin. IF I was never guilty of homosexuality ( which I most certainly am! ) I would still be a sinner. It's in our nature to be sinners.

Leviticus 18:22
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

We really don't need more. God didn't even like people wearing the opposite sex's clothing!
Deuteronomy 22:5
The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

So don't believe that the Bible isn't saying so, please. What makes a person like me saved is that I trust God, that's called faith in Him. Whatever God says, He will do.

Christians are often talking about the word 'sodomy' . They are typically in error by doing so. The word 'sodomy', when it was used back in the day, meant ANYTHING that was not considered 'natural' sex. Even those who weremarried would be charged with sodomy if they were caught doing something to eachother that was arbitrarily considered 'unnatural'. This is so easily illustrated by one of our own modern definitions:
–noun 1. anal or oral copulation with a member of the opposite sex.
2. copulation with a member of the same sex.

So those who are stuck on modern tradition are apparently so God damn ignorant, that they would allow their traditions to get in the way of preaching the Gospel. Such are the ways of devils.

you should read Leviticus - I cant quote it but it does say a man shall not lay down with a man and a woman should not lay with a woman.

and yes I would not be surprised that the Bible says more about divorce than homosexuality. the Bible talks alot about sins ~ all of them!
People have chosen to focus on this because its something they cant understand. They can understand being unhappy in a marriage and leaving. They can not seem to understand a man feeling attracted to another man. People always criticize things they cannot understand or relate to

Homosexuality is the same in the olden days as it is today. When the Bible says that a man lays with another man ( or is with )it means homosexuality. So why so much focus on homosexuality as a sin... some people say that it is because it is disgusting to them. sin is sin.

its anything "dark-sided". look at the recent US "sodomy laws", most of which have been repealed (even in Texas, the ****** of the world). these laws forbode anything outside of procreating intercourse, such as oral, anal, boy/boy, girl/girl, etc, since they cannot produce a baby...even in the privacy of your own home. Thats right, you could not bugger your wife in the "A" legally. despite any terminology, or lack there of, homosexuality was lumped into this generic "ungodly" set of prohibited acts. Totally sounds like a "control" issue to me, but then again, thats what xtianity and the Bible are all about.

Lots of homosexuality written about outside of the bible. One of the more interesting ones, IMHO was the story of the Roman Emporer Hadrian (of Hadrians Wall fame). Let me get a link for you. Not only was he a very out homosexual, who was in committed, loving relationships, but he expanded the Roman empire to it's greatest size.

What's even more sickening is that some modern Bible translations actually employ the word 'homosexual' in the Bible as if it is God's word.

Talk about writing hate into the Bible. 'Homosexual' is not the word of God, it is invented my man. Proof that if God did give man his word, it has been severely corrupted.

I think its one of those things that has to do with other things. Such as you can't have sex out side of marriage, same sex can't marry, hence its a sin. And I think there is a verse about a man laying with a man, but I can't remember it.

Christ would hate the sin of fornication and whoredom...not the simple love that one person feels toward another person...

...we are indeed encouraged by God to express this love...but with purity; free from sin
