actually what Jefferson meant by it has been modified.
it was originally an attempt to keep government from interfering in churches, not the other way aroud.
thankfully, our supreme court, however, ruled that it works both ways. if we have no right to interfere with the church systems, then the churches have no right to interfere with government institutions.
so yay for the supreme court and yay for jefferson's ambiguous wording.

No, but God sent Jesus to teach the rich Jews how to share, but they were above the laws, too. It's a shame the church took their predecessor's views on that! Imagine how many Jesus's the State is destroying because some believe in another way- just like Jesus did!

Crystalline is wrong. Jefferson's reference point was the Church of England interfering in Parliament's affairs.

Strange question because Jesus and TJ shouldn't be working together if we're supposed to have a separation of church and state.
