If not, they why not? If the Bible is important to you, why would you not avail yourself of all the many published resources available to provide information about meaning of words in original languages, debates over different interpretations, historical background, and so on, without which the text will either remain hard to understand or be misinterpreted as each of us reads into it our own assumptions about the meaning of words and our own cultural and historical presuppositions?

Please note that I am not referring to devotional commentaries but academic ones like those in the Anchor Bible or Word Biblical Commentary series.

How could it be a sin to use any of our instinctual behaviors? Why would God have given them to us if they were "sinful"?

Think about it- some Christians argue that sex is purely for procreation within marraige. So why does it feel just as pleasurable before? (For many people moreso, lol).
God could have made our bodies so that the pleasure only "turned on" in a monogomous situation for procreational purposes.

Why would masturbation feel good? God didn't have to make us that way.

Also there is the natural instinctual desire to altar conciousness. Kids demonstate this by spinning till they fall and feel dizzy and things look like they are spinning. There are many natural mind altering substances that God made a part of nature. Used in moderation, like spinning, they simply allow a new perspective for a little while.

What exactly is "sinful" about any of these natural behaviors? And if so, I repeat, WHY did God make them instinctual in us?

i am fed up with the Y!A gods. i have seen so much vile content in here, so many questions posed that include nasty vile things, but my questions get deleted when i was just asking christians to explain why they are allowed to bash other religions and condemn people to hell.

the WSIDR violates the rules with every question posed because it's not in the right section and they are usually offensive to midgets or animals or something.

so with that, i say the Y!A gods are no better than the oppressive religions in this world and i am leaving here. not sure if i'll ever come back.

i give up, i'm leaving, do you care?

and they are overweight or obese? A lot of the preachers you see on tv or even at churches nowadays are overweight or obese. It is biblical about taking care of your body. Most of them talk about smoking, drinking, etc. as sinning. Is there a difference in your eyes? What do you think?

I was raised Catholic back in the day & this wasn't done. Unfortunately, I wandered from the church for "several" years, now as I am not only older, but also a parent, my children & I are going to Mass. So many things have changed...one of them is holding the hands out during the Lord's Prayer ~ I don't do this because I am not sure why it is being done ~ we just use to hold our hands in prayer formationg. Can someone answer this for me? Thanks

For example, can a true Buddhist save up for a house, aspire to a career that requires long-term training, etc., given that you are supposed to live for the moment?

Long-term goals of course require an orientation toward the future.

I asked this question:

'What would make you cry.?' from this account.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkWoK9zq5jvgtbx7gwrq4Ubsy6IX?qid=20070602202225AAkR6rn

As you can see it posted.

I asked the same question using the same exact wording from my gorgeoustxwoman account and twice it was not posted, the 2nd attempt was even issued a violation to that account.
I attempted to ask that question BOTH times in Polls and Surveys.

What is your explanation.?

I'm 57 and yet I can't believe I'm pushing 60. My brain thinks I'm still in my twenties. I'm a teacher and I have 2 grandbabies so I'm around kids alot and I believe that keeps me young. I get surprised when my body tells me to slow down. How old does your brain think you are?

As an obvious example, could we really say that Jews and Muslims would have freedom of religion if they were required to show same respect to images of Jesus that Christians have? Would Christians and Muslims really have freedom of their religion if they were required to wear yarmulkes? Would Christians and Jews have freedom of religion if they were required to adhere to Muslim dietary restrictions?

Forcing people to accept some particular idea or adhere to spiritual &/or behavioral standards from someone else’s religion means that their religious freedom is being infringed upon. Keeping the government and law free from religious doctrine makes it fair for all.

Is that or is that not true?
