I don't know the answer to that, but I would guess a poll would show it to be Christianity. HOWEVER, among professing Christians, only a small percent of them actually follow the faith. Many so called "Christians" don't even believe that Jesus is God, let alone other Bible teachings. How can they call themselves Christians? They see it more as a cultural aspect or a heritage, than the dedicated following that it really is.

However the specific sect that would be the largest (and one to fear the most) is the Evangelical protestant christian movement, which is about 30-50 million strong and extremely political. If you think Pat Roberson created a law school just because he likes education...
well- he understands that it takes teams of lawyers in powerful positions in order to change the laws of this country so that he can get the theocracy he wants.

Islam is the fastest growing but it is not the biggest. Currently Christianity is mainstream in the US.
