Religion is the second Great Separator of Men (The first being language) which causes the division based on their belief systems.

The first Separator was instituted by God at the Tower of Babel, the second, was instituted over time by Satan as he sought to conquer men by dividing them.

God did not create ANY religion. It is HIS wish that we all be united as one. And because of this, Satan created religion so that we could be divided.

I wish many would see this obvious Truth, but it remains hidden from many.

How IS religion defined? I would define it as an organized belief system that includes 1) ceremony 2) dogma and 3) answers to a couple of "cosmic questions" (who am I, what am I supposed to do, etc.). This way you can include things like Christianity as well as non-theistic religions like Buddhism.

Note that philosophies don't have component #1. Lodges (Boy Scouts, Freemasonry, etc.) have a moral code and ceremonies, but not component #3. Also, there are many people who believe in a deity or other "higher power" yet don't adhere to any particular religion.

Religion is difficult to define. Everyone has a different idea of what it is. Most people simply look in the dictionary or use something else equally simplistic. Religion is a human creation and as such can vary as widely as human imagination allows.Belief in the supernatural, especially gods, is one of the most obvious characteristics of religion.

Religion;(-injun) n. system of faith and worship.

Originally there was no Religion in the Garden, A.&E. were taught by, and communicated with God every day in a Sinless Relationship. After Sin, A.&E. were Separated from God except through the "Ritual Sacrifices" God instituted so that they might once again be in Fellowship with Him. Since that time, Man has Adulterated Gods Provision to the point that God (in His Plan) sent His Son Jesus Christ as a Final way for Everyone to be able to communicate with God for Eternity. Since then, Religion (Mans Version) has continued to be Adulterated to suite Mans Selfish Desires, NOT to be closer to God!!! Religion is the Spawn of Satan!!! John

Religion—sometimes used interchangeably with faith or belief system—is commonly defined as belief concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the moral codes, practices and institutions associated with such belief. In its broadest sense some have defined it as the sum total of answers given to explain humankind's relationship with the universe. In the course of the development of religion, it has taken a huge number of forms in various cultures and individuals.

As a religion professor I will tell you that religion is particularly hard to define. Buddhism seems like a religion, but it gives no importance to deities. Hinduism has deities, but they are not the ultimate reality. Yet ignoring ideas of "God" in a definition of religion seems ludicrous. This is a hard question!

Oxford Defines it as:

1.The belief in a superhuman controlling power, esp. in a personal God or gods entitled to obedience and worship. 2 the expression of this in worship. 3 a particular system of faith and worship." Non-Theistic definition: "The word religion has many definitions, all of which can embrace sacred lore and wisdom and knowledge of God or gods, souls and spirits. Religion deals with the spirit in relation to itself, the universe and other life. ...

I think that sums it up pretty good!
