There are many Native American Mormons.

I've got a Mormon missionary friend that just baptized about 9 of them this last month.

SMART Native Americans generally don't become Mormon though because they know their religious traditions better than the Mormons do, and they know they don't descend from Jews, contrary to what the Book of Mormon purports.

Who says there are no Native American Mormons? Just because you don't know any personally does not mean there are none.

Did you know that it's not only NORTH American Indians that are native Americans. There are also Native CENTRAL Americans, and Native SOUTH Americans. And they are ALL represented in the membership in our church.

edit: Mr. Peepers. As the wife of a Pacific Islander, I can tell you that it has nothing to do with "aggressive" proseletyzing that there are so many Pacific Islanders who are members of the church. No people have been so prepared to hear the gospel as the pacific Islanders. My husband is Samoan, and the Samoans were monotheistic, even before they had ever heard of Christianity. I have given some links for a web site my husband is working on, that you might find interesting. He thinks that perhaps the Book of Mormon inadvertently records the beginning of the Polynesian peoples in Alma, with the group that Hagoth took to sea and were never heard from again. There is an ancient Samoan story, the "Solo Ole Va" that I have posted a link to. If you don't see the parallel to Genesis right away (I did and I'm NOT what you would call the sharpest knife in the drawer!) I posted his link to that, also.

BTW, did you know that the US no longer sends missionaries to Samoa? Nope.

THEY send missionaries to the US!

second edit. Again, I see how ignorant people are about us, and seemingly happy to be so.

Hey, Guess what, Man!!
How some of you blokes can truly put your foot in it sometimes!
My mother was baptized by a "native American Mormon", who was a missionary here in Australia at the time.

Now let me ask you sump'n!!

No doubt you know Walt Disney - who, by the way, was baptized a Church member [LDS - Mormon] some 2 years before his death - you know of his terrific animated productions.
This same ex-missionary, in conjunction with a couple of ex-Disney 'boys', produced the animated feature film, "The Swan Princess" not so many years ago, which was a box office hit.
Now they produced this movie after quite some years of producing many smaller animated stories from the Holy Bible and from the Book of Mormon.

Also, we had a General Authority of the Church quite some years ago who was of 'American Indian' background.

... and that's all i know from Australia.
Hang on!
No ... I can now also recall over the years other individual missionaries who were also native American background who have served here.
Also, noy long after I joined the Church we had a lovely family of such background here ... the father was a Mission President here in smoke city Melbourne!!

As you have already heard, there are many native American members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Book of Mormon tells about the visit of Jesus Christ to the native Americans nearly 2000 years ago. Many "Indians" connect with the message that they are descended from the tribe of Joseph, the 11th son of Israel. There was a Navajo general authority at one time but he didn't stay there because he tried to promote his own agenda instead of following the prophet.

There are Native American Mormons. There are a few in the ward where I live. There have been Native American church leaders ("General Authorities") as well, and may be some today.

As others have stated, there are many native American Mormons. There is great resistance among many groups of people who adhere to the traditions of their fathers. Leaving your native culture seems disloyal to many people. Many think that all religions are basically the same, so there is no reason to upset your family by joining another religion. It seems like a deliberate insult to them. The world is much the same everywhere.

Thanks for asking. It gives us a chance to set the record straight.

Most indians join who have the great white spirit in their religion because Jesus was suppose to have visited the indians in the book of Mormon and that explains were he was during the three days before the resurrection. The laminites in the BofM are suppose to be the indians and the great white spirit is suppose to be Jesus, most indians that see this as familiar, usually join the church.

As you can see, there are plenty of answers that state that there are more than a few. However, there are possibly more Polynesian members than native Americans, due mainly to an aggressive (we all know that) missionary effort in the Pacific Islands right from the beginning of the church's organization.

There are Native American Mormons both here in the US and throughout the Americas. The Book of Mormon has particular meaning and relevance for them as it is about the peoples of the ancient Americas.

Oh.. if you are trying to find info, it won't be under Mormon, it will be under LDS.
