I live in right wing extremist heaven. Theres no movement of any magnitude to get creationism in schools. I dont get anyone banging on my door at all hours to preach to me. I think in general this society pretty much lets everyone do what they want. There are factions of fundies but really they never get very far.

As a black person, I always wondered why this particular ethic group mostly seem to have a lack of understanding towards others who seem to be different mentally and physically. In addition, I feel I am judge more harshly by the same ethic group based on my physical features other than my personality. For instance, I remember when I was in high school, I would be teased and pick on because my clothes didn't have a popular name brand, or I had no hair. Furthermore, I finished high school a couple of years ago and now attending a post secondary institution, but I still notice that they have a tendency to gossip about me, or approach me with false allegations, just to aggravate me!! Remember, this is a recollection of what I experienced in the past and present; however, please provide a intelligent answer.

If you lived 300 years ago with the knowledge you have today, you would have been persecuted. Religious leaders saw how science was the biggest threat to their control. The only way to seem legitimate, was to try to take the credit for it. Tell me why I am wrong.

I'm single, look ok. Been divorced 1 year. A man I do love wants me to move to Florida with him and get married. He is 69. We knew each other when I was in my 20's.
Problem, my parents still live near me as well as my now single daughter who is raising 2 children alone also relies on me to help
My guy will not budge from Florida. He says it's paradise but never goes to the beach If we pursue this situation I would have to move and leave my family behind.and I would feel so guilty doing that. Should I give up on love and just resign myself to the fact that I am to be a caregiver for the next 15 years at least? Or look for someone else which I'm not really into doing? I feel trapped.

I mean really. Christians, you can't tell me it wouldn't be boring without atheists to complain about.. And atheists, there wouldn't even be this category without the religious.

Imagine a category with just christians preaching to each other. Then imagine a category with just atheists telling each that god is non existent. This category is just funny because we all post funny and insulting things to each other. We complain about how much we hate each other but honestly who the heck would come to this category if it was boring. So why do you take anything on here seriously? Do any of you, Christians or atheists, actually think your going to convert anyone on yahoo answers?

It's kind of funny how we kind of need each other here to laugh or get mad at. Thoughts?

Old time religion did not like the idea of the Earth not being flat. I think some people got beat up, burned, and deaded for that.
What if they found out there was vegetation on Mars, there was other galaxies, you could put ketchup, mayonaise, jelly, in squeeze bottles? Zealots will kill us all for drinking out of a cup, instead of drinking out of the holy river with our hands?

this isnt a jab at athiests... so dont get all crazy on me.

If Athiest dont believe in a higher being and, there fore, have not set of 'written in stone' guidelines for life... how do you develop your set of morals and values? Do you have morals and values? i mean.. you have to have them.. but... do you have loose morals if you dont have a set guideline to go by?

again.. im not jumping at athiests this time.. im really just curious...

and one more..

what do you think happens when you die... do you think thats just it? you live, you die... and your 'self' ceases to exist as well as your body? if so.. what is your goal in life if its not to 'follow your walk and achieve the final reward'... i mean... doyou only care about secular gain? or do you worry about having good personal character anyways.. even though you have no goal with which to achieve using that good character?

i know im annoying.. but i just wanna know... i want to understand from the other side of the road.

No use replying with "free speech" or "tollerance"..
There is clear and abundant evidence that so many religious teachings are at complete odds with the natural world around us, not to mention the twisted historical persepectives they adhere to.

The religious brainwashing of young minds and the gullible is a cruel thing to do, and causes divisiveness and confusion and war, and only by applying denial and ignorance can there be room for these beliefs, particularly christianity which is so often "humoured" in otherwise scientifically informed western cultures..
Why is this tollerated? It is clearly a farce..!!

Is any one else getting sick and tired of the denial, ignorance, flashoods, misquoting of science, fabricated "facts", and hidden agendas that so many of these institutions indulge in?

Isn't it time to promote learning and the aquisition of knowledge, instead of tollerating, or often even promoting the right to lie and to teach lies openly..??
Is this intollerable.??
