ok please don't be mean,i'm new here and i'm not even an atheist-i'm a hindu....i've seen several questions here by christians asking how atheists (since they don't believe in God/s) can have morals...and i don't get it...i mean, just because you don't believe in God/s doesn't mean that you can't have moral values?!!

a lot of buddhists are very moral and they are atheists....and even though i am a theist,i don't follow ethics simply because of my belief in Gods!

and even if you say that morals may have had their starting point in religion (though by no means limited to theistic religions ONLY! ),still an atheist can take those ETHICS into consideration while not believing in the supernatural right?

Despite the fact that I didn't really try to develop a strong friendship with anyone at work, I have become quite close to a colleague.

He used to call me, and arrange for us to go out. We were clearly getting close and more affectionate with each other.

I don't understand what happened, all of a sudden he stops talking to me. I know it's over, and I am very angry about this and I am starting to hate him in a way, yet deep down I still have feelings for him.
How do i get over him?

Christianity and Islam were brought to Africa by Whites and Arabs? In both of these religions, equality is preached. Somewhere on the line, it seems people lost track of what they were preaching. Or did it feel good to just think that you are better than someone with the same type of blood, brain matter, senses and intelligence, just because on the surface, the skins are a different color?

Why not we get accussed of everything else. The other day I read a web site that proclaimed evolution was an atheist /satanic conspiracy to make everyone gay.

A pan handling drunk on the street looked down on me because I wouldn't pray with him and don't go to church.

Many people on R&S have stated that atheists are stupid, don't understand, have no meaning in life....I could go on.

Yes, some atheists on here are rude. I get that but is it okay to make personal assumptions about someone based on disbelief? If you say that your are a Christian/Muslim or Hindu you are identifying what you believe. We can assume that has an affect on the way you view the world.

Why assume the worst about atheists?

I'm very interested to find out what people think of social workers and any dealings they might have had with them. SW's get a pretty bad press, and it is one of the least respected professions in Britain (I think). Is it justified?

What if Chrisitanity is a sham and Jesus was just a story? What if the entire Bible was a book written not in the 1st Century, but in the 12th? Does that mean Christians are doomed?

What if you're wrong and Chirst was everything He said He was and more?

Okay i dont know if this is just my family but my mother has used the excuse "Oh it's just a phase" or "HORMONES!" just about every single time the subject of my sexuality has come up. My question is this... Will my parents (especially my mother) ever grow out of that crappy excuse? or Is there a certain age when teenage hormones stop "screwing up" my sexuality (again quoting my mother)? I think it is just my mother's way of coping with this whole thing but SHE was the one that nearly forced me into tell her I was gay 4 years ago (im 18 now). since i was going through some serious crap with depression back then my mother eventually got this idea that my father, uncle, aunt, or some random guy molested me or some crap so I had no way of pushing the question off to the side. I had to tell her i was gay. when i told her she said "That's it?" and then stopped talking to me for about a week. I just dunno when my mother will stop using that lame excuse. Any ideas?

Gay right acctivists were attack by members of the public in Mascow yesterday for trying to convince the mayor for having a Gay Pride. After being attacked the victims were then arrested by the police. I feel disgusted by their behaviour and will never visit Russia.

Would a sign of a spiritual visit be feeling ice cold, shivering, and getting goosebumps on your whole body when the temperature is at 80? Just curious. Somebody asked me about this and I told them I'd see what everyone here says, since I'm not into that.

I am not usually superstitious, however once when I had a run of bad luck I got it into my head that a certain object that I had purchased was bringing me bad luck. I buried the item in the forest following advice from my superstitious sister. My luck did not change so I retrieved the item and it hangs on my wall. The Item was a replica Phaistos Disc from greece, no one knows the meaning of what it says. Some web sites suggest it carries a curse.

Is there no punishment for those who live by greed and vicious methods? Oil barons who jack up prices just so they can make huge profits. hurting those who cannot afford to live? Murderers and rapists, who inflict pain and suffering, not only their victims, but, the families of victims as well? So, should we live our lives and get as much as we can out of life, not caring who we hurt? And live by a policy, "Take what you can, because this is the only life you have" ?
And those of us who do try to live honest and benevolent lives, are doing so for nothing? Is it better to take advantage, and get ahead, than be a fool, and be taken advantage of?
No punishment for the wicked?
No reward for the honest?
