As a black person, I always wondered why this particular ethic group mostly seem to have a lack of understanding towards others who seem to be different mentally and physically. In addition, I feel I am judge more harshly by the same ethic group based on my physical features other than my personality. For instance, I remember when I was in high school, I would be teased and pick on because my clothes didn't have a popular name brand, or I had no hair. Furthermore, I finished high school a couple of years ago and now attending a post secondary institution, but I still notice that they have a tendency to gossip about me, or approach me with false allegations, just to aggravate me!! Remember, this is a recollection of what I experienced in the past and present; however, please provide a intelligent answer.

What you described is not homophobic. But I'm black, lesbian, open minded etc...and I am surrounded by friends who are black and feel the same way. So, maybe it's the people you know, but not black people as a whole. Its real dangerous to make generalizations

I am a black woman and I have nothing against homeosexuals at all. I have homosexual friends and some family members and it does not bother me one bit. I was raised to be an open minded individual and not to judge others so this does not apply to me. I have found that many in the African ameircan community feel the need to be so hateful or non understanding because of mostly religion and what the Bible says. My grandparents are preachers and they speak of homosexuality like its straight from the devil and they are teaching this to others. Luckily the rest of my family are open minded human beings and are not hateful but I really believe that this lack of understanding and acceptance stems from the religious influences in black society.

I will try to give a good answer.

As a black female with a daughter, I tend to look at young men as potential husbands for her. If they are gay, it is not an option and therefore I am less likely to make friends with him.

That's all.
