Sitting here watching the wheel go round and round.
The entire song makes sense to me from an agnostic point of view.
From the Christian view in verse one:
"People say Im crazy doing what Im doing
Well they give me all kinds of warnings to save me from ruin
When I say that Im o.k. well they look at me kind of strange
Surely youre not happy now you no longer play the game"
From the atheist view the second verse:
"People say Im lazy dreaming my life away
Well they give me all kinds of advice designed to enlighten me
When I tell them that Im doing fine watching shadows on the wall
Dont you miss the big time boy youre no longer on the ball"
And then in harmony is the 3rd verse
"Ah, people asking questions lost in confusion
Well I tell them theres no problem, only solutions
Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if Ive lost my mind
I tell them theres no hurry
Im just sitting here doing time"
Of course the chorus line is my stance on theism and atheism in general:
"Im just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go"
Where as the "merry go round" is the spinning out of control make you dizzy sick absolution.
Sorry I dont usually post this long and copy and paste but I had to clarify my answer.
I also love "Imagine" as it seems perfect!

I am a Wiccan and i do not believe in heaven or hell.....so.....
Artist: Lennon John
Album: Imagine
Title: Imagine
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I've always been fondest of the cynical middle eights that slide into Paul's songs, like in 'We Can Work It Out' and 'Getting Better'.

What amazes me about the song Imagine is they tried that in Communist Russia and China. Imagine that. Maybe he forgot the lyric to his preivious song. If you go carrying signs about Chariman Mao??? If your talkin about destructuh uhn don't you know you can count me out. Imagine had a good melody too bad he couldn't have said something that had meaning. Oh well I guess being a pop star doesn't make you an authority on religious issues.
