The idea of Christians shoving their beliefs and ideals down people's throats really comes from the big door to door and televangelist movement of the 1980's through the 90's. There was a time when you couldn't get through a meal or a TV show without having a knock at your door from a mormon or jehova's witness that just wouldn't leave you alone.
Modern day Christianity typically works on a principle of showing your belief rather than enforcing it. By example, a Christian can show to a non Christian that they are a good person, hospitable, etc. By doing so, it may spark a conversation about why that Christian may be the way he or she is.
Creationism will NEVER find its way into schools. Living in a science driven society, we think that we can use science to dictate what should be taught. Since there is no scientific evidence to creation, it will never be taught. Also, take into consideration the little seperation a church and state argument. We can't even say a prayer at a football game anymore.
Society is able to do whatever it wants. Always has been. If I'm assuming correctly, you are a Christian. Believing thusly, God instilled in Man a freedom of choice. Free will allows people to do whatever they want to, wether it be moral or not.

It's only extremists most Christians believe it or not are actually very open minded and work hard to NOT shove their beliefs down everyones throat. The only reason anyone thinks they are all like that is because you only really here about the extremists and everyone else is rather quiet about their religion. Thus creating a stereotype that a lot of people buy into. Just remember stereotypes may be true fro some but the are not true for all.

Of course not! How often do we see Christians really grabbing people by the throat and preaching the Gospel down their necks? Many times people use this phrase to imply that Christians are forcing their religious beliefs upon them. But unless some kind of physical coercion is being used or that your personal freedom is being removed, such charges are really baseless and speaks more of the person being a bigot and intolerant than the Christians they are referring to.

New believers have a lot of excitement and enthusiasm about their new found relationship with God and have a tendency to tell everyone they meet but after awhile will calm down. I myself believe that there is more sincerity in the way I live my life as an example of my faith than using words. If someone asks what makes me different, I won't hesitate to give them an answer on how Jesus changed my life.

Yes, they do... in a passive sort of way. Maybe you're safe because you're similar enough, but if you're short brown and worship blue gods-- guess what, people start to talk your ears off in an attempt to shout you into salvation. There are always snide comments, side remarks that are irrelevant yet pointed so that a (non-factual) point is thrown in at random. I'd say it's like psychological warfare more than anything else...

I understand completely, I grew up in the same environment. People outside think of complete areas of the country as governed by the smaller majority that is shown more in the news (usually bad press). All across the country, no matter where you go (even in leftist land) tolerance is what you will find, most people will let you be you, and not push their beliefs on you. But people only know what they see on the news, so, as long you know the truth, let them say what they want.

No, but a true Christian / Believer is not afraid to talk or express openly about what they believe & what is right.
It is the Extremists, who are so willing to shove things down everyone's throats... because that is the ONLY way they can get anyone to listen to them.

Especially on Y/Q&A it seems to be the athiests shoving their beliefs down other peoples throats. If they say they are not then why are they even commenting in a religion & spirituality when they say they do not believe?
I understand that some are here to make fun of other people.
But it seems to me there would be only 2 reasons why they would be here.
1. make fun of other people.
2. push their beliefs down others throats.

I am a christian , and I have actually had other christians shove things down my throat and I would say that I would go out of my way not to run into them............however , they are few. Most christians are timid and dont say a whole lot in person. Some christians are bold when it is the right time to be bold and longsuffering when it is the right time to be longsuffering.......but they are few.

You know, this is such a disgusting way of putting it. Of course unless you open your mouth wide with your throat open, you won't get anything down it. No, not all Christians are like that. Us true born again Bible believing Christians only witness to those who want to listen. We cannot make anyone hear us. It is our duty to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am sorry if we offend you, just that we don't want anyone to not have a chance for everlasting life by salvation through Jesus Christ. If you get confronted by us and don't want to hear us, just tell us you are not interested and walk away, that way you won't feel it in your throat.
