Even though at the bottom of the page, they say that "A small minority include Hasan ibn Ali as a fifth righteously guided Caliph", then why do they list Hasan ibn Ali as the fifth Caliph at the top of the page? I think that's very misleading....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rightly_Guided_Caliphs

There are only 4 Khulafā’ur-Rāshidūn, not 5.

Why do we feel obligated to go all out for Christmas? Why do people stress themselves out and put themselves into debt for it? Help me understand why people do it, cuz it makes me not want to celebrate it anymore.

I'm a 27yr old mom of 2 (4 yr and 1 yr old) My mother in law keeps asking for a christmas list for me. I've been too busy thinking of what to get everyone on my shopping list, too busy getting ready for the holidays; that I've never really thought about what I would want. Ask what my kids would like and I can rattle them off, but really I don't know what I want! Any moms out there that have this same problem...help me out!

Just some advice, someone should reach out to that guy. He is really giving your religion a bad name spreading all of the hate he has in his heart towards non-Christians.

Do you answer the door, or do remain quite so that you can pretend no one is home? or do you lie to them and tell them that one of your family members preach to you. I never answer my door cuz i dont like people trying to convert me into something im not interest it in. Im sure some of you are guilty as well.

All young children believe in God

2006-12-08 16:32:43 · 21 answers · asked by hello 1 in Religion & Spirituality

Not to insult believers or say that agnostics and atheists can't feel good about life.

But this is the general conclusion I've reached after much thought and debate on how people explain their existence. Faith usually boils down to people explaining life in a way that is appealing to them, thus making sense according to the pleasure principle. While atheists and agnostics usually seek to explain life scientifically, seeking explanations that can be proven or tested with solid methods and logic, thus making sense according the reality principle.

Simply put: For believers, feeling good makes sense. For, non-believers, making sense feels good. In my experience, that seems to be the main divide between these two ways of thought.

What do you think?

How to Tell if You're a Grinch

This is the second of the essential personality tests to prepare you misfit readers for your New Year's resolutions:

1. You reuse last year's Christmas cards and send them out under your own name (5 points).

2. You steal light bulbs from you neighbour's outdoor display to replenish your own supply (5 points, 10 if neighbour's whole light sets or lighted Santa goes out).

3. You have dressed a dog or cat as Santa Claus, elf helper, or reindeer (10 points for each; if you dressed an endangered species, 5 extra points).

4. You put out last year's stale candy canes for children (1 point for each piece of sticky candy). If you put out a chocolate or marzipan Santa also, add 10 points.

5. You enclose a shoddy and inferior gift from Target, Wal-Mart, or Kmart in a Bloomingdale's or other prestige box to impress your friends (5 points for each infraction).

6. You make collect long distance phone calls to your family on Christmas day (5 points, 10 if from a cell phone), claiming you are stuck in a phone booth..

7. At the office Christmas party, you horde huge stockpiles of goodies for later consumption at home (5 points; 15 points if you use this stuff for your own party).

8. You steal the wreath from a parked car to use on your own (Southern California only, others ignore: 5 points -- nobody but Angelenos are dumb enough to dress a car).

9. After an invitation to a friend's house, you bring a commercially produced fruitcake and try to pass it off as home made (5 points; 15 points if the fruitcake is from last year).

10. Any stealing from the Toys-for-Tots collection bins is a definite no-no (20 points).

Evaluate your score on the "Grinch Scale" from 20 to 100.

20-30: You are just a cheeseball.

30-50: You are an apprentice in Yuletide larceny and are probably
wanted by the police for overdue parking tickets.

50-100: Grinch, move over. The Meyer Lansky of Christmas crime has
arrived.

So many damn good questions about this topic so I'll ask just one.

You pray for children, friends and family.
Some of the higher faith even pray for their enemies....so why not
pray for the devil?

Do you not believe that he can be saved too?

If you were in publice and you were staring at someone you knew, they smiled at you, you in turn attempt to say hello or something, and they quickly avert their eyes to ignore you? Be honest, don't say you wouldn't care.

I got a birthday email today. And I don't know if I agree with the trivia they put in it -- what do you think, is it true, false, bogus, nit-picking, or what? Do your best to justify your answer. Here's the email:

Here is a little birthday trivia for you...

Your actual Birthday occurs only once every 7 years!
Although you might celebrate your birthday every year, your actual
birthday only occurs once every 7 years! Not counting leaping years, the
date you were born on moves each year to the following day of the week.
For example, if you were born on Saturday March 15th, the following
year, March 15th will fall on a Sunday, the year after on a Monday, and so
on. This means your annual celebration is actually for your birth date
- not your birthday - and in truth your birth day (the actual day you
were born on) occurs only every 7 years!

My best friend recently came out to his parents that he's gay and his parents kicked him out of the house. I've been letting him stay here, and I have absolutely no problem with him living with me. What we, want to know is, is there any possible way that his parents will be able to accept him for who he is, or should he just keep putting distance bewteen them?

I'd prefer that only those who have gone through this be the ones to answer.
