What? Surely you're joking. I'd venture to guess that most athiests were raised in a home that worshipped some God. At some time they developed some independent thought, looked at some facts and came to a conclusion that a God doesn't exist. After your parents brainwash you over Santa Claus, how can you believe anything they say?

My parents do believe in YHWH, so no brainwashing from them. I actually never believed any of what I was taught in Sunday school--at least, no more than I "believed" any of the other fairy tales I read. It never made sense or rang true to me.
I know of lots of young children who don't believe in any god/s.

It was the brainwashing of religion that turned me away from God and made me question everything around me. I came to be an atheist on my own accord; absolutely no one contributed to my beliefs but myself. I offically rationalized my non-belief in God at 16, and didn't discuss the topic with another atheist until 21.

LoL my parents are christian so they definately didnt brainwash me. Noone else brainwashed me either for that matter. Im agnostic, not atheist but just because someone chooses to believe or not believe in something doesnt mean they didnt have their own free will to do so.

I was brainwashed by there being so many mythologies, and the fact that people who lived decades after Jesus wrote everything we know about him. Maybe if Jesus had done something significant, like overthrow a corrupt Roman empire instead saving a few old people, I'd be inclined to study him more.

I was never brainwashed. My parents let me choose what I want to believe. I did all the research and I found what was best for me. And that's not for anyone to judge.

I'm not an atheist, but I knew children who did not believe in God. God is something that is learned, it isn't programmed into our brains at birth.

Many children also believe in the Tooth Fairy. Why? Because someone told them that it exists. Not too many young children have honed critical thinking skills.
