This morning an acquaintance of mine mentioned that she thought it was unhealthy to have a plant in the bedroom. I have never heard this before. Where does this saying come from? What's the reasoning behind it?

I've realized that I have been bad about this and would like to be more thoughtful when it comes to my granddaughter. A neat appearance is important, of course, but I don't want my choice of words to encourage her to focus too much on physical beauty and not enough on building good character, being smart and reliable, and being happy with who she is.

If he wants us to have the free will to believe in him without appearing to us like he did to the people in the Old Testament, did he not give them the free will to decide for themself? For example, he appeared to Moses as a burning bush. Did Moses have a choice but to believe at that point? Where was his free will? He was a pawn of God's from there on. There is no free will in that.

Something doesn't compute.

Famous example is Socrates. Who was locked up for heliocentric theory? Darwin waited 20 years to make his theory public, and is still demonized. Crusades had no real martyrs, or did they?

He asked to a nude picture of myself. I told him I would humor him. He has made other comments and advnaces. When he does so and I display a little discomfort he calls me a homophob. How do I tell him that I do not like his advances without being a homophob?

Ad hominem argument: attacking the person instead of his argument.

So far I count 6 common types.

1. the atheist is evil, a bad person.

2. the atheist has no standard of "morals".

3. the atheist is an agent of Satan.

4.the atheist is like a rebellious child ie., he is simply unreasonable.

5.the atheist is actually wants to believe but willfully refuses to submit.

6.the atheist reads the bible with his head not his heart ie.,the atheist over intellectualizes everything too much. He has no faith.

I suppose there are more but these are common hourly on Yahoo.

Don't get me wrong. I am Christian and believe most of what the Bible says.

However it has occurred to me. They say God through his prophets wrote the Bible. The prophets are human and had their own personal beliefs. How much of those personal feelings and beliefs have made it into todays Bible.

Its been copied and passed down over many many centuries. Who can say that the Bible is still what it was meant to be?
