Newborn & Baby - January 2007

Does this happen to anyone else? I walk into the room and my 7-month-old baby smiles most of the time but when my husband enters the room my baby goes crazy - smiling, laughing, waving his arms.
We both work full time but I do most of the child care just because I am home earlier and spend more time with him. I cuddle him, kiss him, read to him, sing to him, laugh with him, feed him, diaper him, play peek-a-boo and pat-a-cake...you get the point. We really have a great time together. My husband IS very good with the baby but just doesn't have a ton of time to spend with him because of his work schedule.
It's certainly not a competition and I'm thrilled that he loves his dad so much but I am just wondering why I don't get the same reception from my baby as my husband and I'm the one doing 90% of the parenting. Is my baby already taking me for granted?? (ha, ha...is that ridiculous?)

I recently had a baby and found that there are so many things you buy and you really don't need them. Baby shower gifts always consist of nail clippers, how many of yous got way to many of those? I bought way to many clothes, to many undershirts, which were not needed. A useless toy is the the ones that go on the handle of car seats. I mean you have to keep the handle down in the car, so whats the point of them? Diaper Genie was useless. I find the playpen is great that has the bassinet with it, especially if you travel a lot. Any advice for those soon to be moms on what they don't need to spend money on?

My 6 month old son seems to cough for attention, it is very light and when my wife picks him up he seems to stop. Is this normal behavior for a baby?

I was just wondering i am not planning on doing this at all. What happens when you are breastfeeding and you smoke ciggerettes and weed and drink. DOes it affect the baby. Just curious.

I've asked this before and haven't really gotten an answer that helps. My 3 month old drinks formula and I am always wondering if I am giving her the right amount of powder in her water. She's been constipated lately, she actually had a really big hard poop stuck coming out of her anus - the poor thing. By the way if that ever happens, jsut lift the baby's legs and push under the anus and the poop will slide out. Thank God I figured this out because when I called the doctor they told me to take her to the ER and then I just pushed right under the poop and it came out, she had had the poop stuck there for 5 whole minutes!

Anyway, they say not to give water alone to babies but I feel like maybe I am making the formula too concentrated. Because I see air pockets in the powder in the little scooper, I've been adding a tad extra to make up for those pockets but now I am thinking I shouldn't be doing that. How do you know if it is the right scoop and have you noticed the air pockets?

I just have to take a moment... my 6 month son JUST STARTED SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT, and I am in shock... people told me it would happen, but I so doubted it! Let's hear it, moms, is this not THE BEST feeling ever? Even if it's a temporary thing, today my world rocks. It's like a whole new outlook. Remember when this happened for you? YAY! :)

My daughter is now 10 months. Since she was 8 1/2 months we have been slowly switching her to whole milk. And yes her doctor knows about this. They said to do it slowly. So we have been doing 7oz formula 1oz whole milk for a week, then it's 6-2, 5-3...etc. The problem is this: when she gets to 4-4, she become badly constipated. I try to continue it for a couple days so she can get used to it, but she only gets worse. The last time it was so bad she slightly bled from straining. Not much, just enough to barely see it on her stool. I've told her dr. about this too. And they say to start over again, it's supposed to help her system get used to it even more. But everytime we get to 4-4, she gets badly constipated. Should we try another milk? Like 2% or something.

I know you're not supposed to mix formula and breast milk because it does something to the iron, but does anyone know if it's okay to mix formula and cow's milk? I'm trying to ween my 1 year old.

I´m 5 moonths pregnant and I live in Germany. My parents are Arab and abroad. I would like to give my son (if it´s a boy) a name that won´t be too awkward in Germany or pronounced weird and at the same time it should also be easy for my parents to pronounce and not sound too European coz they would find that weird! I was thinking of Kai. Similar names would be nice. Basically a name that could have an Arabic ring to it but at the same time not TOO arabic that the kid would still be able to grow up not being an outcast. Help!

one of the questions i answered a day ago really bought my partners and mine experience back to me, thinking what an amazing thing it is for our son to finally come into this world, and instantly falling in love so much to this tiny little baby.
It is the greatest moment of my life and i will never forget it.

Please give nice happy stories to compare with mine!!!
Thanks.

i would like it if someone could please give me a link where i could look up the ingredients for hyland's teething tablets. i have read that there is belladonna in them (which can be an extremely toxic herb) as well as tons of sugar and lactose.
i know that no manufaturer would survive if they were doing something incredibly wrong with thier product -- but i cant seem to get the information on it id like to have.
im not asking whether you had success with it or if you think its the devils drug-- i just would like to find a website that tells me some solid facts about what is in the stuff and how it works!
id like to know some active ingredients and maybe some drug history-- but nothing biased. just cold hard facts. thanks!

She is breastfed, and is always pooping but it's very very green and stringy-like and like diareah, and there's not a lot of it, either. It seems to burn her bum, too.

IT'S A GIRL!! I stopped asking my relatives about what they think of names because the feedback is rarely positive. I am being induced on 1/16/07 if I don't go into labor first and we STILL can't find a name!!! Here is the list of names we like so far...

Matea (my husband's favorite - not sure what I think of it)

Callie/Caleigh

Maya

Kori

Addie/Adi/Adie (probably my least favorite. We liked Addison until I found out how ridiculously popular it is. So, we tried shortening it.)

Hayden (I LOVE this, but I know it's a pretty popular name for boys right now!)

We want an "M" name for either 1st or middle name because of a family member who recently passed. I am open to suggestions. I like names that are different and a little rare, but don't sound like you're trying too hard.

I have 3 children so I know to move them up a size in diapers if they have blow-outs, but the watery breastfed baby poop leaks out anyway depending on how the baby is positioned when the BM happens. I do the cold water rinse on the excess and a pre-wash in the washing machine in cold water with detergent but I still seem to end up with the faint yellow stain on baby's clothes. I'm sure there is a product that will get it out if I treat it right away, I just don't want to buy everything I see to try to find the right one. HELP!!!!!

I had a baby 4 months ago, tried to breast feed for 2 days, didn't work so went to the bottle/formula. I dried up and now I have noticed that I am starting to leak again. Has this happened to anyone before? Is it normal?
