She is breastfed, and is always pooping but it's very very green and stringy-like and like diareah, and there's not a lot of it, either. It seems to burn her bum, too.

We took her to see the doc and she's been losing lots of weight! They're doing some tests on some stool we collected to see if she has a rare, but serious, infection from all the antiobiotics and illnesses she's had. Or, it is colitis or celiac disease, or plain and simple malnutrition.

The stool tests came back and they're were clean.
On Monday we'll be getting her weight checked again and possibly a blood test. I'm not excited about the blood test; I hate my kids getting stuck with needles!

She has an infection, perhaps even a parasite from the sound of it. Strange but true even in this day and age. We all have them its just that she is so young that it probably affects her worse.

hi there i don't know where u are from but my baby had the same thing and seen a consultant at hospital who told me the reason his stools were green like that was because the milk and food was passing through his system to quickly. He was also losing weight. however he has since been put on a prescription milk called sma staydown and i swear we have never looked back he is piling on the weight and really happy in himself now. just keep at the docs if ur in the uk ask about sma staydown its worked wonders for my wee one. good luck and hope it all works out ok. xx i know ur wee one is breastfed but i was told i could do combined feeding with the sma. xx

Kinda sounds to me like there is a fore/hindmilk imbalance. Simple solution if this is the case. Just try to only nurse off of one side and then the next feeding nurse only off of the other side. This may not be the problem but it would also explain the weight issue as well because the hindmilk contains the most fat and if your baby isn't really getting much of it then she wouldn't be gaining as much weight. I haven't personally experienced this but I post on a website with a ton of other nursing moms and they have experienced this. A suggestion, have a talk with your local lactation consultant if the results come back that your baby is fine. Most hospitals have one that dont charge for their services. Like I said I haven't personally experienced this but I consider myself to be very educated about breastfeeding and I have been nursing my daughter for 15 months. I hope everything turns out ok.

Firstly ignore dcforensics51as she obviously can't read.

Secondly lactose intolerance, which everyone is going to tell you is what causes green mucousy poop is EXTREMELY rare in children under 3. It would cause failure to thrive at birth. Temporary lactose intolerance can be caused by sickness, but even in these cases it is best to continue breastfeeding. For more information about lactose intolerence see:

Most likely it is caused by a bacteria or virus. It will most likely go away on its own. Just be sure to keep your daughter hydrated, if she becomes dehydrated, runs a high fever, is overly lethargic or doesn't pee in 6 hours seek medical attention immediatly.

As for her bum, try applying some milk of magnesia (an antacid) or some other antacid this will cut down on the external burning.

You also may want to discontinue solids for a few days until this clears. It depends on how much breastmilk she generally consumes though.

If it is mucosy that generally means an abundance of lactose from the breast milk. if you pump and then let the bottle sit for a half hour or so, you will see a thin layer on top and a thicker layer on bottom; the thin layer on top is lactose. If you are switching breasts before one is completely empty then your child is getting more lactose in the begining of the feeding that can cause gas and diarrhea and mucosy green B.M. Try giving water after feedings and using desatin or A&D ointment at each diaper change. good luck and hope it clears up in a day or two.

ok my bad; the fat rises to the top; jeez!!

i don't believe of it is teething. i imagine it is basically appropriate to progression. Your toddler is arising a personality to boot as likes and dislikes. one among those habit is complete conventional at this age. He wouldn't have the power of language yet, yet has an opinion on an recommendations-blowing many stuff. each and each and every of the belongings you listed above are how he expresses those reviews. My daughter also hates (with a pastime) countless the belongings you've listed above.

Yep, that's bad. Sounds like she may have a stomach virus. Rub A LOT of diaper rash cream on her bottom and call your doctor for an appointment asap. While you have the office on the phone, ask them what NOT to feed her right now.

Best wishes!

This is something only your Doctor can answer. Probably something in the diet. I gave my daughter beets and her urine was red, I thought it was blood. Doctor and I had a laugh.

Any diarrhea is bad. Make sure you keep offering plenty of fluids. If it continues see your doctor. My twins just got home from the hospital because of this nasty stomach bug going around. They can dehydrate QUICK.

sounds like she may have caught a bug of some sort...if the diarrhea continues I would take her to see the doc. Just make sure she is getting plenty of fluids to keep her hydrated.
