I gave my son things like...mashed potatoes, oatmeal, grits, little chopped up bits of pasta with cheese melted on it, smashed up beans, anyhting like that but always just cut it up as small as you can get it or smash it. They don't care they just love the taste. I know this was a scary time for me as I was always afraid he would get choked but just feed him small bits and of course soft stuff. Before you know it he'll be eating crackers, sandwiches ( cut up) and all kinds of things. Chef boy are dee makes a great microwave bowl that has mac 'n' cheese. I like it because it's very soft pasta and it's cheesy. Tha'ts a great one tho keep around.

Almost anything that is well cooked and soft will do if the baby will take it. (ie overcooked)
My 1.5 year old especially loves the soft tops of broccoli with butter and garlic, cauliflower with cheese, and finely diced chicken, Another fav is spring rolls since before he was a year(he used to just mostly suck the filling out of one cut in half).
They can gum up a lot of food without teeth. Mine have been eaters of everything but steak before they had thier molars. Actually meat simply wasnt a prefered food until about 1.5 to 2 for my boys
If this babe is just starting solids - soft carrots, crackers, sliced cheese, soft pasta, soft canned peas are great starters. Rice is good but better in a casserole since it is messy to keep in a spoon if he wants to self feed. Oh yeah - cheerios and those gerber fruit stars are great too.

Anything that requires alot of chewing is going to be a bad idea. Also anything that can get past without chewing but lead to choking. When my children were that age I often would let them eat with the rest of the family offering them mostly the side dishes as opposed to the meats since those are usually a bit tougher -two teeth might not work with steak haha... but if u have ground beef .. they might handle a bit of that.. or chicken.. just chop it into small finger pieces.. this is a great age to keep everything bite size and let them use fingers.. helps them with fine motor skills..
